How to Lose Weight in Your Face

When people think of losing fat, they often think of losing fat in their belly. Or in their thighs. So let me ask you something. When you think of appearance, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

I bet more than half of you answered the face. Then why is the face ignored when it comes to working out? Yes, we can always wear makeup and improve the visual appeal of our face. But I’m here to tell you that facial exercises will improve the appearance of your face.

The face is the most astonishing part of the body. Most people notice it first. Nowadays, high cheekbones are a trend. Hollywood stars get them with plastic surgery. But as with everything, you can get them by exercising. Today, I want to discuss how to lose weight in your face, and how to make your face even more astonishing than ever.

Do you need to lose weight in your face?

I know what you’re thinking. First I’m telling you that you need to lose weight, and now I’m asking you to answer the question yourself. But the important point here is that not each and every one of you needs to lose weight in your face. Some are born with great genes and some have their work cut out for them.

But before we discuss how to lose weight in your face, let’s ask ourselves: do I really need to lose weight in my face? Look yourself in the mirror and consider the following questions:

  • Do you feel your face isn’t slim?
  • Do your family members have the same facial proportions as you?
  • Ask your friends if they think your face is chubby.
  • Is your face “puffy” or fat? Unlike fat, puffiness is caused by poor nutrition like salty foods and lack of sleep.

That being said, facial exercises are just as important as physical exercises. There are more than 50 muscles in the face, and they need to be exercised. Here are some exercises you can do.

Say X and O

At first glance, you might think this is stupid. After all, they’re just two letters in the alphabet. But saying these two letters, one after the other, will force your mouth and cheeks to contract so that you work your muscles. You move your muscles a lot, and that’s a good thing. Repeat as many times per day as you can and wish.

Chin lifts

This is the exercise you need to get rid of a double chin. You stretch almost all of your facial muscles, but mainly the jaw, neck, and throat. You can include as many muscles as you want.

To perform the exercise, tilt your head towards the ceiling, and keep your eyes looking at the ceiling. Make your lips tight, and try to kiss the ceiling. Hold the position for 10 seconds, and then relax. Repeat 10 times.

Lip pull

When people talk about yoga facial exercises, the lip pull is the first one on the list. People practice it regularly. If performed consistently, this exercise will ensure you look more youthful. You can do this in a standing or sitting position. Hold your head in the normal position and lift your lower lip as much as possible. Do that by pushing the lower jaw out. You will feel a stretch in the chin muscles and the jaw line. Hold the position for few seconds, and then relax.

Fish face

A few years ago, the fish face was one of the most popular selfie trends. Honestly, I hated it. But there is no denying that the fish face works your facial muscles. The best part is that you can do this exercise while watching TV or listening to music. Suck in your cheeks and lips and then try smiling. Hold the position for five seconds, and you will definitely feel your cheeks and jaws working out.

Jaw release

This is the exercise to get those high cheekbones we talked about at the beginning. It stretches the muscles around the lips, cheeks, and jaws. Sit or stand with your back straight and move your jaw like you’re chewing something, keeping your lips closed and breathing in and out. While breathing out, hum. Now, open your mouth and press your tongue on the bottom teeth. Hold for five seconds, and breathe in and out again. That’s one repetition. Repeat 10 times.

Blow air

We all blow out air sometimes, and we do this without knowing it works our facial and neck muscles. This is one of the most effective exercises for reducing a double chin. For this exercise, you need to sit on a chair. Keep your spine straight and tilt your head back so that you face the ceiling. At this moment, pucker your lips and blow out air out of your mouth. Continue for a few seconds, and then relax.

Try to close your eyes

It’s easy to close your eyes with your eyelids. But try doing it with the muscles of your cheeks. As you’re trying to close your eyes, you’ll feel the contraction of the muscles. Go as far as you can, and then hold for 10 seconds.

In addition to doing facial exercises, there are a few small changes to your lifestyle that will help you lose weight in your face. Let’s list some of them:

  • Wear sunscreen when you exercise outdoors or even just walk. Wearing sunscreen while exercising outdoors will protect your face from damage from the sun’s rays.
