Every year, there’s one strange hairstyle trend that’s actually awesome. This year, that trend is holographic hair. And it’s only logical—after all, the year started with holographic nails, and now we get holographic hair.
Older generations will remember the time of CDs. If you held a CD up to the sunlight, the chrome-like side would refract the sun’s rays. As a result, you would get unique hues of yellow, green, and pink on the CD.
Well, now those colors are available for your hair as well! Much like other rainbow-inspired hair colors, you have options. You can opt for subtle, blended colors. You can skip some colors. But in essence, this is blond shades combined with pastel pinks, lavenders, yellows, and blues.
The trend is catching up on Instagram and Pinterest, and we would like to show you some ideas.
1. Holographic Opal
We start off with a simple hairstyle that emphasizes the holographic trend. Yes, most of these hairstyles are for long hair. But as you will see later on, there is some love for short hair as well.
2. Silver Metallic Red and Pink
I already mentioned that you don’t need to use all the colors in the palette. If you don’t like a particular color, you can avoid it. That’s the case here, with red being the highly emphasized color.
3. Holographic Platinum Blonde
Another example is when you want to keep other colors subtle. In this case, platinum blonde is what you want to emphasize. Well, go for it, and keep the other colors at bay.
4. Metallic Rainbow
I said at the beginning that holographic hair is a rainbow-inspired hairstyle. And we get to see it at full display here. The platinum blonde is just the base, and the other colors shine magnificently. And there are more colors than lavender, blue, and green.
5. Holographic Hologram
You can say this is taking things to the next level. A hologram within the hologram. It all comes down to the hairstyle, not the colors, to be honest. Curly hair brings some playfulness as well as a whimsical, cheerful feeling.
6. Holographic Marine
For those of you who perhaps don’t fully notice it here, marine is actually blue. Yes, there are some other shades and hues in there. But the main contrast is platinum blond with blue hues as the holographic touch.
7. Holographic Reverse Rainbow
Reverse is self-explanatory: instead of using platinum blond as the base, you actually use the holographic colors as a base. The platinum blonde is the color that brings them together.
8. Pastel Ponytail
As with curly hair, a ponytail is another trick you can use to maximize the potential of holographic hair. Whenever you use a ponytail (or any other trick), you put even more emphasis on your hair, which is the intention with holographic hair.
9. Marine Unicorn
There are two things that make this hairstyle unique. For starters, you have a braid, a more elegant solution. And then you have blue as the main color of the holographic trend, with different hues of blue giving you a frisky look. But the braid is what makes this hairstyle possible for formal events and black-tie dinners.
10. Dark Hologram Rainbow
The basis of holographic hair is a blond base with rainbow-colored hues. But that’s not always the case. As you can see here, holographic hair is very possible for brunettes and women with dark hair as well.
11. Metallic Opal Pixie
I said at the start that holographic hair is usually reserved for women with long hair. But I also said that those with short hair get some love as well. The pixie is right in the middle. Considered a medium hairstyle, the pixie is great for holographic hair.
12. Purple Holographic Hair
Yes, you can classify even this example as holographic hair. Think outside the box and try a different color for the base. You don’t have to go platinum blue all the time.
13. Opal Pastel
Definitely one of my favorites because it has such a whimsical feeling. I love the braids; I love the wildness of the hairstyle. Braids and curly hair are something you have to try at least once in your life.
14. Metallic Marine
We had quite a few examples of marine blue holographic hair. Some are more subtle, some are more emphasized, and this one is right in the middle. The blue is still the main color, but not as emphasized. And there are some other colors of the rainbow included too.
15. Holographic Unicorn
When you think of unicorns, you think of these exact hues. And it’s remarkable that some hairstylists can capture these colors. Believe me, it’s extremely challenging!
16. Prism Pixie
Another pixie example. The pixie was a huge hairstyle trend in 2016, and a year later, you can still wear it thanks to the 2017 hair trend, holographic hair.
17. Opalescent Wave
Just notice how the hues are a bit darker than what we’ve seen so far in terms of holographic hair. This hairstyle perfectly shows that you can use a darker hair color for the trend as well. And I’ve already noted that the hues do not necessarily have to be light and pale.
18. Iridescent Latte
No, this is not the coffee drink-inspired colors. The trick here is to make the colors appear as if they are gradually changing when you at them from different angles.
19. Blue-Pink Opal
I love the subtle extreme of this hairstyle. With the blue and pink almost non-recognizable, they seem like they’ve meshed completely with the platinum blonde.
20. Silver Violet
We had the marine platinum where the emphasis was on the blue color. Well, now we have an example where the emphasis is on the violet. As I said at the beginning, you can choose which color you want to emphasize and which you want to avoid.
21. Iridescent Platinum
Displaying lustrous colors like the ones of the rainbow, we have a platinum hairstyle in two ways here. You can wear it loose as curly hair, and you can wear it in a braid. And the look is completely different.
22. Short Opalescent Wave
Waves are another hairstyle that give your holographic hair an elegant, sophisticated look. This way, you can wear your rainbow-inspired hues at a formal event.
23. Blond Iridescent Neons
This is probably the closest to lavender hues you are going to find. If lavender is your favorite color, check how emphasized it is at the top of the head.
24. Dimensional Silver Violet
We finish off with something that I love to call the “wild hairstyle.” I love curly hair that looks as naturally curled as possible. And curly hair definitely makes the holographic look whimsical.
That’s all for today. Feel free to share your holographic hair with the rest of us!
