White Says Holloway’s Getting Better
Initially, White admits that he didn’t have any idea on Holloway’s condition. He said during the UFC 226 press conference that “there’s no way” the featherweight champ will fight anytime soon.
But after the FOX 30 weigh-ins earlier, White gave a clear update on the health status of “Blessed.”
“He’s good,” White told the reporters. “He’s doing well. They gave him a time frame. I’d actually like to wait a little longer on his time frame and make sure that he’s 100 per cent. I don’t know yet (what the time frame is).”
The UFC President also denied the rumours that about the possibility that Hawaiian could have suffered from a stroke, but he still has no clue on the exact health issue. Nonetheless, he confidently stated that the featherweight champ is improving.
No Plans For Interim Title
With Holloway currently on a 12-fight winning streak on UFC, fans are looking forward to his next title defence. The cancelled bout between the featherweight champ and Ortega was one of the most anticipated fights on UFC 226, but it could still happen in the future.
UFC President was asked about the possibility of an interim title for the division as the return of Holloway is uncertain, White said it’s unlikely to happen as they are still waiting for him to come back.
He said he’s confident that Holloway would return sometime soon, but he doesn’t want to rush the champ, especially at a young age of 26.
“What I want to do is have him take some time off,” White said. “Here’s the problem: No matter how far away you book a fight, I’m worried about him starting to spar. I don’t want him to do any of that stuff until it’s absolutely necessary. I want to give him more time. There is no time frame. I just want this kid to be healthy.”
