UFC may have excellent MMA fighters, but there are still some amazing talents that haven’t joined the world’s biggest MMA promotion – and that includes Ben Askren.
Because of his reign as an undefeated fighter in the welterweight division, many fans, and even Askren himself hope to get the chance to match up against big names in the UFC. His potential opponents include Georges St. Pierre, Darren Till, and also lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, the main problem before is that things didn’t go well between Askren and UFC President Dana White.
But recently, the UFC boss revealed that we might witness the former ONE champion inside the octagon soon.
Ben Askren Soon in the UFC
After earning 18-0 record when he won his fight against longtime mixed martial artist Shinya Aoki last November, Askren decided to retire from his MMA career.
But he didn’t totally retire yet, Askren made it clear that he’d only come out of retirement after one last fight to prove that he is the best welterweight fighter in the world.
A few months back, the undefeated former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight king expressed his interest to enter the grandest stage in MMA. He was mentioning a fight against former UFC middleweight and welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre under the UFC banner, but it was far from reality.
Despite the bitterness between Askren and the UFC boss, White told the UFC Unfiltered podcast recently that he is still actually open to the possibility of working with the ‘Funky’ one.
“Ben Askren is under contract,” White said to the ‘UFC Unfiltered’ podcast Tuesday Morning (transcript courtesy of MMANews). “Ben Askren hit me up a few months ago and said, ‘What are the odds we can talk about me getting into the UFC? And I said, ‘We can absolutely talk about it.’ And I said, ‘You need to send me a letter before I even talk to you, or meet with you, or do anything. I need a letter saying that you’re a free agent and that you’re able to…whatever.
And he’s not a free agent. He’s not a free agent. He’s under contract with ONE FC, and he’s gonna have to go fulfil his contract with them.”

Askren vs GSP?
Now that it would be likely for Askren to arrive in the UFC, a potential matchup against St-Pierre would be a feast for MMA fans.

With the fact that GSP hasn’t lost since 2007 and Askren is undefeated throughout his career, witnessing a rivalry between the two fighters sounds like a good idea!
But these are also some great matchups for Askren:
