Urijah Faber Reveals Possible Opponent For His UFC Return

The former UFC contender who’s been labelled as the legendary fighter who has put smaller weight classes in the map has just hinted his Octagon return.

Despite entering fatherhood, Urijah Faber is still competing in high-level combat sports. The former WEC champ and long-time UFC bantamweight is currently preparing for an upcoming grappling match vs 17-year-old phenom Nicky Ryan at Polaris 8 in May.

Recently appearing in an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the head of Team Alpha Male touched on what most fans wanted to know: his possible return to the UFC.

Aside from this, Faber revealed that the Nevada-based promotion has offered him two fights in 2018, which he almost said yes to despite being given on short notice.

‘The Californian Kid’ last entered the famed Octagon opposite to Brad Pickett at UFC on Fox 22 in 2016. He snapped his previous two-fight losing streak after scoring a nail-biting unanimous decision win over Picket.

Guesting on Helwani’s The MMA Show, Faber shared a bit about how his life detached from the UFC has been going, making his next career plans known.

“With the baby in my life, and with the rejuvenation of my body, and seeing why I stood out for so long, it’s just really, really tempting,” Faber told the sports journalist.

“And I’m going to take this time to prepare for this May 25 matchup with one of the best jiu-jitsu players on the planet, to get my body into shape.”

“And I’m going to continue with that and get my body back into [being] a weapon and look for an opportunity to possibly step in if there’s something that makes sense,” he continued.

The former WEC champ has also dropped an interesting item — that the UFC has offered him two short notice fights in 2018 against some of the biggest names in the featherweight class — Cub Swanson and Chan Sung Jung. The bouts obviously did not materialise.

Most Logical

Continuing Faber said:

“I was just so tempted to hop in there because I’ve been feeling great in practice. I actually feel like the rest has been a rejuvenating rest. My body feels amazing. My head feels clear. But I don’t like to be doing things on a whim.”

The Sports Network journalist Aaron Bronsteter has also reported some of the Californian Kid’s statements, including the opponent Faber wants to take on in the potential Octagon return ‘he’s been thinking of.’

“Urijah Faber tells @arielhelwani that he was offered two fights last year: Cub Swanson & Korean Zombie. Faber said he was tempted to take them, but he didn’t want to take them on a whim.”

“Faber admits he is thinking of returning to the UFC. He is still in the testing pool.”

“Urijah Faber tells @arielhelwani that a matchup with TJ Dillashaw is the one that is the most logical at this point.”

“Faber says that Dillashaw is “the type of guy that would step on his uncle’s neck to get a buck.”
