The UFC Fight Night in Florida is on the brink of losing its headlining bout as one of its stars is currently struggling to make it to the weight limit.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk, a former UFC strawweight champion, is scheduled to meet Michelle Waterson this Saturday in the main event of the said card.
The Polish mixed martial artist is looking to rebound from a failed attempt to capture the flyweight title, losing to Valentina Shevchenko in a one-sided showdown last December.
In her last four UFC outings, Jedrzejczyk has won only one fight in a unanimous decision victory against Tecia Torres. She is now 9-3 in her UFC career and 15-3 overall.
Jedrzejczyk’s return to the cage might be delayed as she can’t make the 115-pound limit for her clash against Waterson.
“I’m told Joanna Jędrzejczyk had a good workout this AM and does not want the fight to get canceled. After it was made clear Team Waterson was not interested in a catchweight, JJ has decided to do everything — within reason — to make 116,” ESPN’s Ariel Helwani revealed yesterday.

Amid the weigh-in debacle, Waterson expressed her disappointment with the recent turn of events as she really wants to win the fight to earn a shot against current champion, Weili Zhang.
“I heard that Joanna was having trouble making weight and that she wanted to renegotiate the contract at 120 [pounds],” the ‘Karate Hottie’ told MMA Fighting.
“I took this fight under the assumption that we were both in contention for the strawweight belt, and to me, that’s a very serious undertaking.”
“There’s only a couple things you have to do as a fighter, and one of them is make weight. My intention is to fight for the strawweight belt—not for the flyweight belt, not for the featherweight belt. The 115 belt.”
Meanwhile, Jędrzejczyk told her fans to calm down and assured them that she will be showing up at the weigh-ins on Friday.
“I don’t know what’s going on, the weigh-ins are [Friday] and you’re all worried. The fight is on, the weigh-ins are on Friday. Keep it calm, guys. All fine, step-by-step. I will see you there.”
Saturday’s UFC main event — Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Michelle Waterson — is in jeopardy. According to multiple sources, Joanna Jedrzejczyk informed the UFC over a week ago that she would not be able to make the strawweight limit of 116 pounds. More: https://t.co/lVjthsPO3G
