UFC 239 Looks To Be The Most Stacked PPV Fight Card Of The Year

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s next pay-per-view event is set to be the promotion’s game-changer this year as the UFC 239 is set to bring an extraordinary fight card for mixed martial arts fans.

The Nevada-based promotion had a rocky start for 2019 after losing its UFC 233 event and the Robert Whittaker vs Kelvin Gastelum headliner for UFC 234.

Luckily, the UFC 235 recorded strong pay-per-view records, with Jon Jones back in the fold, as it reportedly nabbed 500 000 to 650 000 PPV buys.

But it was a complete turnaround after UFC 236 and 237 as both events reportedly recorded less than 100 000 PPV buys, the lowest in 15 years.

With two title fights on its roster, the upcoming UFC 239 PPV event is set to change the narrative for the world’s leading MMA outfit.

Two Title Fights

Jon Jones will return to action this July after his first successful title defence earlier this month. He outclassed Anthony Smith in the main event of the stacked UFC 235 to retain the light heavyweight championship.

It was his first winning streak since his victory over Daniel Cormier in 2017 ago was overturned to a no-contest after testing positive to a banned substance. Jones reclaimed the 205-pound throne last December in his rematch with an old rival, Alexander Gustafsson.

‘Bones’ has shown that he is still on top of his game despite being sidelined for a long time. On July 6, he will march on to another title retention bid that would solidify his legacy as one of the greatest of all-time.

Amanda Nunes will co-headline the event opposite former champion Holly Holm for the bantamweight strap.

The two-division champion was coming off a historic win over Cris Cyborg in her move to the featherweight class in December.

Nunes made quick work of the most dominant fighter in women’s MMA as she finished the featherweight champion in just 51 seconds to become the third fighter in the promotion to hold two different belts simultaneously, joining the ranks of two-division champs, Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier.

Holm, meanwhile, last fought in June and earned a decision win against Megan Anderson.

Fights To Watch

Aside from these title fights, MMA fans should also keep their eyes on an intriguing welterweight fight between Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal.

This fight could go the distance as a potential title shot could be on the line.

Another interesting storyline in this fight card is Luke Rockhold’s long-awaited debut in the 205-pound division.

The former middleweight champion faces Jan Blachowicz in the main card.
