Anthony Joshua and Jarell Miller will tussle in an intriguing heavyweight clash on June 1 for the WBA (super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight belts.
After months of anticipation, the British boxer has finally found an opponent for his next title-defence bout. But this showdown against Miller would be extra special as Joshua is set to make his long-awaited debut in the United States.
The heavyweight pair will head to the illustrious Madison Square Garden in New York, but only one of them will remain undefeated. Joshua has won all his 22 fights in as many outings while the American boxer has collected 24 wins and a draw in 25 bouts.
Anthony Joshua announced on Wednesday that he is heading to the stateside for the first time as he is set to take Jarell Miller for his next title-retention bid.
“The time has come to head across the Atlantic and defend my heavyweight titles in the USA. I will be fighting at the legendary Madison Square Garden. I plan to embrace the culture and leave with an appetite for more.”
“I am looking forward to taking on another challenge with a good boxer and a brilliant talker. It will be an exciting fight. I will leave nothing to chance and plan on dismantling Miller in style to make my mark.”
The announcement has received mixed reactions from boxing fans on social media. Check out some of the craziest reactions to the Joshua vs Miller official fight announcement from the Twitter-verse:
.@anthonyfjoshua has the potential to be an international superstar at the level of LeBron or Ronaldo. AJ’s U.S. debut on June 1 @TheGarden is his next step to global awareness. Keep in mind, there was a time when the heavyweight champion was the most famous man in the world.

But some boxing fans were not happy with the pairing, saying that the number 1 heavyweight should not fight a ranked ten opponent. Others also blasted AJ’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.

What I don't understand is, if @anthonyfjoshua couldn't fight Wilder/Fury because or the rematch (which is understandable). Why couldn't he fight @usykaa? With Usyk moving up to heavyweight, that surely carries more interest?

What do you think of this match-up? Will this be a walk in the park for AJ? Or will Miller pull off an upset?
