There isn’t a woman alive who wouldn’t love to wear the Victoria’s Secret fantasy bra at least once in her lifetime. The famous bra by Victoria’s Secret is the ultimate lingerie piece a woman could have. When you think that “diamonds are girl’s best friend,” the fantasy bra might be even a better friend. After all, it is encrusted with hundreds of thousands of diamonds.
Some of the most beautiful women alive have worn the fantasy bra. Heidi Klum wore it three times. Adriana Lima wore it, as did Candice Swanepoel, Tyra Banks, Miranda Kerr, Marissa Miller, Karolina Kurkova, Gisele, and others. And it all started with one of the most famous supermodels of all time, Claudia Schiffer. In the wake of this year’s Victoria’s Secret show, we take a look back at the history of the most famous bra in the world.
Claudia Schiffer, 1996
Claudia wore the very first fantasy bra. At the time, the bra was called the “Million Dollar Miracle Bra.” The fantasy bra was priced at exactly $1 million, and it featured more than 100 carats of diamonds. There were other semi-precious gemstones on it, but the diamonds were the main feature. Sadly, the bra did not appear in the show; fans got to see the bra only in a commercial. Perhaps executives were not ready to let a 100-carat diamond bra loose on the runway.
Tyra Banks, 1997
The next year, Victoria’s Secret executives took things to another level. The second version of the fantasy bra featured fewer diamonds and more satin. However, it was still more expensive than the first version. The “Diamond Dream Bra” had a $3 million price tag and featured 93 pear cut gemstones along with 100 diamonds around the trim. But the biggest rock was a 42-carat pear cut diamond at the center.
Daniela Pestova, 1998
Pestova is probably one of the least famous fashion models to wear the fantasy bra. We’re not saying she wasn’t great, but at the time, Tyra and Claudia dominated the headlines. Pestova was living in their shadow, but in 1998, she got to be the face of the Victoria’s Secret fantasy bra. And her bra was even more expensive, now with a price tag of $5 million. The Dream Angel Fantasy Bra featured a dazzling display of 77 carats of marquise cut rubies and 330 carats of pear cut diamonds set in platinum. Again, the bra was not featured in the show, only in commercials.
Heidi Klum, 1999
In 1999, Klum got her first shot at the fantasy bra. And Victoria’s Secret executives doubled up on everything. The bra had a $10 million price tag and featured 2,000 diamonds set in platinum. And among them, several diamond-cut sapphires. Again, the bra was not featured in the show. It wasn’t until the 2000s that Victoria’s Secret executives decided the bra could be included in the show on a regular basis.
Gisele Bundchen, 2000
At the time, the Red Hot Fantasy Bra got the Guinness World Record for the most expensive and extravagant underwear ever. The bra featured more than 1,300 rubies, including 300 carats of Thai rubies. And with so many gemstones, the bra had a price tag of $15 million. Again, the bra was not featured in the show. And six years later, it lost the title as the most expensive piece of lingerie when Susan Rosen designed a $20 million bra for a Sports Illustrated cover.
Heidi Klum, 2001
Becoming the first model to wear the fantasy bra two times, Heidi wore a $12.5 million fantasy bra during the 2001 Victoria’s Secret fashion show. She looked like she was ready to take flight thanks to the Heavenly Star Bra. This was the first time that the fantasy bra appeared on the runway. Featuring 1,200 Sri Lankan pink sapphires, the bra also had a 90-carat emerald cut diamond in the center.
Karolina Kurkova, 2002
Looking like an English garden, this $12 million set featured 1,150 rubies and 1,600 emeralds. The bra was called “Star of Victoria Fantasy Bra,” and again, appeared in the show.
Heidi Klum, 2003
One of the reasons why Heidi is considered one of the most successful models, one of the most beautiful women, and arguably one of the best paid is Victoria’s Secret. She is the only model who got to wear the fantasy bra for a record third time. And she did it in a span of just five years. In 2003, she wore the Very Sexy Fantasy Bra, which had an $11 million price tag. Featuring a 70-carat diamond in the center, the bra took an unbelievable 370 hours to create. The diamond in the center was the second largest in the world at the time.
Tyra Banks, 2004
Banks was chosen to be the face of the fantasy bra two times, and both times the bra didn’t make it into the show. In 2004, she wore the Heavenly 70 Fantasy Bra, featuring 2,900 diamonds set in 18 karat white gold. In the center, the bra featured a 70-carat flawless and perfectly pear shaped diamond. The design took VS workers 275 hours to create. And while Tyra didn’t wear the bra at the show, she showed it all around America as the VS angels made the Angels Across America tour.
Gisele Bundchen, 2005
Gisele also wore the fantasy bra two times. Her second appearance got her a bra that was priced at $12.5 million, same as Heidi Klum’s two years earlier. This bra featured 2,900 pavé set diamonds, including 22 ruby gemstones and a 101-carat diamond drop hanging from the sweet bow detail at the center.
Karolina Kurkova, 2006
In 2006, Kurkova showed that diamonds are forever as she got her second stint with the fantasy bra, this time, a $6.5 million piece of lingerie. Called “Hearts on Fire Fantasy Bra,” the bra featured 2,000 diamonds and a 10-carat diamond brooch centerpiece.
Selita Ebanks, 2007
This was the first time Victoria’s Secret showed more than just a fantasy bra. The lingerie set included a bra, thong, cuff, barrette, and garter, all coated in diamonds, yellow sapphires, rubies, and emeralds. The price tag was set at $4.5 million for the Holiday Fantasy Bra. All in all, there were more than 9,000 gemstones.
Adriana Lima, 2008
Adriana Lima started her dominance at the VS show in style, when she wore a $5 million Black Diamond Fantasy Bra. And she looked like an angel wearing it. With white wings, her fantasy bra included 3,900 white diamonds interspersed with rubies. In total, the diamonds were worth 1,500 carats. I would be smiling as well if I wore that!
Marisa Miller, 2009
This harlequin-inspired bra was worth $3 million. The bra featured 2,300 white, champagne, and cognac-colored diamonds on the cups, all tied up together with a 16-carat, heart shaped diamond pendant at the center.
Adriana Lima, 2010
It looked like Victoria’s Secret was trying to make a more “affordable” fantasy bra. With a price tag of “just” $2 million, this Bombshell Fantasy Bra certainly fit the bill. It was the birth of bombshell beauties. Featuring more than 3,000 brilliant cut white diamonds, the bra took 1,500 hours of labor to complete. Blue sapphires and oval cut topazes completed the look.
Miranda Kerr, 2011
Boasting more than 3,400 precious gemstones, this Fantasy Treasure Bra was worth $2.5 million, and Australian babe Miranda Kerr got to wear it. The bra was draped in strands of pearls, finishing off with a pearl tassel. Aquamarine, yellow and white diamonds, citrines, and pearls all made it to the final cut of gemstones in this bra. All the gemstones were set in 18 karat white gold.
Alessandra Ambrosio, 2012
In 2012, Victoria’s Secret went floral, and the flower-looking fantasy bra cost $2.5 million. Covered in sapphires, rubies, diamonds, and amethysts, the bra featured a removable 20-carat white diamond at the center. There were more than 5,200 precious gems in the bra. And for the first time, VS accompanied the bra with a $500,000 fragrance, with the bottle packed with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and a 10-carat white diamond.
Candice Swanepoel, 2013
Candice brought the most expensive bra VS had in years to life. Her Royal Fantasy Bra featured more than 4,200 gemstones, including diamonds, rubies, and yellow sapphires. With a price tag of $10 million, the Royal Fantasy Bra had a 52-carat pear cut ruby at the center.
Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, 2014
Technically, Adriana Lima got to wear the fantasy bra three times. But for her third time, she had to share that role with Alessandra Ambrosio. It was the first time Victoria’s Secret chose two models for the fantasy bra. The bras were different: the one Adriana wore was blue, and the one Alessandra wore was red. The name Dream Angels Fantasy bra certainly fit the bill. The $2 million fantasy bra was set in 18k gold and featured more than 16,000 gemstones, including rubies, diamonds, and blue sapphires.
Lily Aldridge, 2015
Long-time model Lily Aldridge finally got her chance to wear the fantasy bra. And she did not disappoint. She posed comfortably for pictures as she wore the $2 million fantasy bra. The stunning bra featured more than 6,500 gemstones, including diamonds, yellow sapphires, pink quartz, and blue topaz, all set in 18 karat gold.
Jasmine Tookes, 2016
For the latest show, VS chose Jasmine Tokes to wear the $3 million fantasy bra. The bra is made of more than 9,000 precious gemstones, including diamonds and emeralds. The bra features a simpler design than previous models, but it is still stunning and shiny.
