Boxer Who Suffered Savage Eye Injury Calls It “One Of Those Things”

Losing is painful but suffering another setback after a loss is completely unbearable.

English Boxer Sam Hyde starred in a cruiserweight fight on the undercard of the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tony Bellew bout last Saturday at the Manchester Arena. Things did not end well for Hyde as he was defeated by Richard Riakporhe in a devastating fashion which also led to one of the worst injuries the boxing community has ever seen.

The 25-year old boxer fought in front of his home fans at Manchester Arena. With the crowd throwing a solid support, Hyde was able to pull off a brilliant start as he took the lead early. But the momentum switched to the side of Riakporhe when an eye injury slowed Hyde down.

In the eighth round, the Londoner launched a flurry of right hooks, which resulted in a massive swell on Hyde’s left eye. Despite this setback, he continued to fight, but his trainer Joe Gallagher had seen enough and decided to raise the white flag, which forced the referee Steve Gray to stop the match. The victory gave Riakporhe the vacant WBA Inter-Continental cruiserweight title and stretched his winning streak to eight in as many outings.

Being the sportsman that he is, Riakporhe has reached out to Hyde after the fight. He sent him a message, reminding him that he is a true champ and a warrior .

Riakporhe wrote: “Hey bro it was truly a pleasure to share the ring with you and let me know if your eye is fine when you check it out. I have a lot of respect for you. You are a true champ and warrior. Keep on pushing. You have a team that will guide you to what you want to achieve.”

“Hi bro! Ah mate one of them things! We had a great scrap and you got the win brother. Thank you for sharing the ring and get that and we will do it again,” Hyde replied.

The 28-year old Riakporhe shared the snap of this conversation on social media and fans loved it! Relive their cruiserweight fight in the video below:
