The UFC has just added another phenomenal warrior on its lightweight roster in Rafael Fiziev — the fighter dubbed as the ‘Muay Thai Matrix’ for his unbelievable ability to dodge solid head kicks.
On Sunday, Kazakhstan native Fiziev is set to make his Octagon debut for the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 149 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Fiziev entered the professional realm of mixed martial arts in 2015. Despite being in a few bouts since his launch, he was able to make himself known for having an exceptional defence; sliding away from heavy head kicks like Neo from the famous ‘The Matrix’ trilogy.
The 26-year-old is now fighting a more experienced rival in Magomed Mustafaev on his first Octagon appearance but is confident to make his presence felt in the lightweight division.
Despite having a law degree and being a police officer by profession, Fiziev is determined to pursue a career as a prizefighter; inking a contract with the largest MMA promotion with only six fights on his professional record.
“Ataman” impressively finished his first five bouts before the first bell rang; four via knockout and one via submission. In his latest victory, he floored his co-Kazakhstan opponent Nurzhan Tutkaev at the second round of their Titan FC match in Almaty.
The lightweight prospect now aims to make himself known as the new name in the 155-lb. division on his upcoming Octagon debut.
“I agree that I’m entering the toughest division in UFC,” Fiziev stated in an interview with the promotion. “All the fighters from our division are very strong, and I’m not gonna brag that I’m ready to beat everyone. I arrived in UFC and I’m still growing and developing as a fighter.”
“Maybe I don’t have a lot of pro fights, but I have a lot of experience in amateur competition in different combat sports. I’m confident and ready to let everyone know about the new name in the division,” he added.
“I can’t wait for my debut. I want to make weight, I want to go out and see the crowd that’s waiting for the fights, I want to breathe that air of the Octagon and close my eyes to enjoy the moment that I’ve been waiting so long for.”
