Anthony Pettis On Returning Nate Diaz: “I Can’t Wait To Hurt This Guy”

Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis will be a man on a mission when he marches to the cage this summer for an intriguing clash with the Returning Nate Diaz.

Pettis will face Diaz in the co-main event of the UFC 241 pay-per-view event, which is scheduled to go down on August 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Boasting a 22-8 win-loss pro-MMA record, the 32-year old Pettis made a successful debut in the welterweight division last March.

He returned to the win column after knocking out Thompson in the second round of their fight and took home the Performance of the Night honour.

His upcoming opponent, Diaz, has not fought in the Octagon for over two years, with his last bout opposite Conor McGregor getting the nod for the Fight of The Year recognition in 2016.

Since that rematch with ‘The Notorious,’ Diaz has had a rocky relationship with the Nevada-based promotion, which caused a delay on his fighting return.

Inevitable

Before securing a fight against Pettis, Diaz has been throwing shade on the UFC in social media.

He threatened to leave the promotion and even teased a potential move to UFC’s rival, Bellator MMA, after his fight with Dustin Poirier was scrapped.

After all the drama, Diaz’s return is now guaranteed, and Pettis said their fight really needs to happen to settle unfinished business.

“We’ve just always had this drama,” Pettis told Ariel Helwani in his MMA show, per ESPN.

“Every time we saw each other, something was going to happen. He might have been jealous I was the champ.”

“He wanted his shot at me. He got his [Conor] McGregor fight and then went MIA.”

“That chapter never closed in my life, so to me, this is something that had to happen.”

“Nate is a tough dude, but he turns it on for the cameras,” Pettis admitted.

“For me, I’m past that drama stuff, but I’m definitely looking forward to whooping his ass.”

“It’s Personal”

Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis also shared that this fight with Diaz is going to be personal for him.

With this, he wants to give the Stockton slugger a crushing defeat to provide him with a huge reality check.

“I can’t wait to hurt this guy. This is a personal fight for me,” Pettis said.

“This is one guy I just don’t like. Me and Diaz got problems. Now we can solve them.”

“It’s time to back it up; Everything he’s been talking, all the stuff he’s been saying and all the drama he’s been trying to cause with the UFC vets.”

“Alright, let’s settle it now, in the octagon, exactly how I want it. Man, I’m excited for this fight, 100% motivated. I want to knock this guy out.”
