Pettis Wants to Challenge These Two Fighters
Thanks to his remarkable victory, former UFC lightweight champion Pettis reasserted himself as a top-10 UFC lightweight, and his UFC career is not in jeopardy. Maybe this made him push to have big bouts against Al Iaquinta (13-4-1 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and frequent callout target Nate Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC) following that mini-resurgence.
It appears that the former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, 31-year old Pettis, has set his sights on a couple of high-profile matchups for his next Octagon appearance.
Nate Diaz and Al Iaquinta Responses to Pettis
It looks like Twitter is the easy way to call out a new challenger. And Pettis didn’t think twice to use it to call out his next targets.
As “Showtime” Pettis sets his standards to the next level, he challenged Nate Diaz and Al Iaquinta on his Twitter account.
— Anthony Pettis (@Showtimepettis) July 16, 2018
@ALIAQUINTA I’m down 2 Fight @ufc said you are out indefinitely @NateDiaz209 what’s up don’t be scared homie #teampettis #fuckthediazbrothers @danawhite”
That hashtag, though! But neither Iaquinta nor Diaz has responded to Pettis’ callout.
Maybe Pettis needs to think a better hashtag than that.
Their Current Timelines
Iaquinta last appeared at UFC 223 where had won five straight fights before a recent last-minute-notice loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in April. He was all set to face off against Justin Gaethje but he was replaced by James Vick due to an injury.
UFC Fight Night 135 will happen at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska on Aug. 25, 2018.
Diaz, meanwhile, still hasn’t been in action in nearly two years. He hasn’t competed since dropping a majority decision in a rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August 2016.
Despite a massive and frequent callouts Diaz receives, he seems has no concrete plans for a return to the cage yet. On the other hand, Anthony Pettis and Nate Diaz are both ranked at number eight and this is a fight that makes sense.
Will you look forward to Pettis vs Diaz / Pettis vs Iaquinta bout?
