The much-anticipated fight for the ages, Khabib vs McGregor, is right around the corner. The must-see UFC 229 event, taking place at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, will see ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor return to the Octagon for the first time in two years. Something which in itself has already sparked a huge amount of excitement. Especially after his recent crazy bus antics earlier this year.
At the event, McGregor will finally be facing off against current UFC Lightweight Champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. A man who also happens to hold the record for the longest undefeated streak in MMA, with 26 wins.
Although, obviously this is a record that, much to the delight of many, could potentially end if McGregor was to come out victorious. And, of course, if The Notorious manages to come out on top, he will regain the Lightweight Champion Title. One that he previously won in November 2016. Something he held for 511 days before he had it stripped away from him due to inactivity.
However, the hype surrounding the Khabib vs McGregor fight is not one to easily go unnoticed, causing many to share their predictions as to who the victor will be and how it will happen.
Khabib vs McGregor Prediction
Anthony Pettis, a man who knows what it takes to climb to the top of the MMA mountain after being World Lightweight Champion in both the UFC and the WEC, has given his prediction for the Khabib vs McGregor event.
Speaking as a champion, Pettis believes if McGregor wins, he has a better claim to being UFC lightweight champion than Khabib.
At a recent media event in Las Vegas, Pettis stated “I think Conor’s win over Eddie solidifies him more as champion more than Khabib beating Al. That’s just facts. The belt is where it is, they had to do it for the business, they had to move it forward, but if it was true to the game, Conor would be the champion.”
Continuing further, Pettis said “We’ve all seen his striking game, We saw him in his last fight against Al and how he performed. If he comes like that against Conor? I mean, that’s the wrong guy to do it against I’m sure he’s motivated, I’m sure Conor’s motivated. But I’m picking Conor.”
Pettis nearly fought Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 as his name was one of several put forward. But the slot was filled by Iaquinta. However, Pettis will be making an appearance at UFC 229 when he goes up against Tony Ferguson.
“I think my performance will send a message, I think that fight is a great fight,” Pettis said. “I mean, Khabib is undefeated, I almost had the chance to fight him in Brooklyn, that didn’t happen. I think the media pushed that harder than it was, I didn’t really have a guarantee that I was fighting Khabib. I was almost there, I got excited, now I’m here, I’m fighting Tony, the main event is a great fight, Conor vs. Khabib, they’re both good.”
In Pettis’ opinion, he thinks Conor McGregor will win by knockout, but unsure by which round this will occur in.
