Famed Chinese mixed martial artist Xu Xiaodong, known for wanting to prove that “Chinese kung-fu is a scam”, has beaten another high-level practitioner of one of the world’s oldest martial arts with his victory being caught on camera.Wing Chun was developed in the Guangdong Province of southern China as a way of allowing practitioners to defend themselves in situations where they are faced with stronger, physically imposing opponents.
Xiaodong took on Ding Hao, a Wing Chun practitioner who claims to be a descendant of kung fu master and martial arts icon Ip Man, who was a coach and mentor to Hollywood action star Bruce Lee. The matchup was supposedly organised when Ding Hao insulted Xiaodong last year.
Xiaodong has been relentlessly attempting to prove that modern mixed martial arts is superior to traditional Chinese martial arts for the last year or so, previously taking on a master of Tai Chi, who he left knocked out just ten seconds into their highly anticipated bout.
The fight with Ding Hao took place in Chengde, Hebei Province on March 18th, with the fight also being streamed on the “City Fighting” combat show owned by Xiaodong who had not fought in around ten months.
The beginning of the fight saw Xiaodong covering up to defend strikes from the Wing Chun master, who seemed to pepper the mixed martial artist with a series of ineffectual blows. Xiaodong would taunt his opponent, bobbing and weaving before he tossed Ding Hao to the ground.
Xiaodong would later let loose with a series of strikes that dropped Ding Hao, leaving the Wing Chun master extremely dazed. He would end up being dropped six times at the hands of Xiaodong over the course of their three minute round, taunting his opponent midway through the fight by assuming a number of stances similar to those found in traditional martial arts.
The referee officially announced the match as ending in a draw, despite the fact that Ding Hao had fallen over six times and ended up with a lacerated, bleeding face. Pretty unfortunate for a supposed descendant of Ip Man himself.
