Sports is designed to be fair and rule-based, but as we know, no sport is perfect enough to have no space for cheaters. Sometimes, the best teams lose, fouls go unnoticed and equipment is programmed.
At that being said, MMA isn’t a cheat-free sport. Some fighters who are desperate for a dirty win can either use performance-enhancing drugs or — pretend to be hit hard so the opponent will gain a negative score or get disqualified. This sounds pretty awful for a mad MMA fan, but believe me, these floppers acting pained are hilarious!
MMA Fakers as Oscar Nominees
How far can an MMA fighter get to win a prized belt? Apparently, they’re in for a little bit of theatre acting just to gain so. Here’s a list of the Greatest Fakers of All Time:
1. Mario Saeed on his fight against Azi Thomas (2014)
Thomas illegally kicked Mario Saeed during their Cage Warriors 72 bout twice. The first kick landed but the second one which made him faint did not… How on Earth did that happen?
Saeed even had a dilemma whether to complain about the illegal move or act extremely hit. It seemed to be a hard choice so he did both.
2. Josh Koschek fighting Paul Daley in UFC 113
Commentator: And the Oscar goes to…
The announcer is even agreeing with me, that this faker can be an Oscar awardee. Koschek pretended to be hurt after his opponent’s illegally kick in the head didn’t hit an inch of him.
Good for him though, he successfully abducted a point from Daley’s and won the fight via decision. His frustrated rival landed his best hit after that.
3. Eddy Bengtsson on his fight against Aleksander Emelianenko
We aren’t MMA experts but we know when a fighter was hurt bad or not. And obviously, Emelianenko’s cute punch wouldn’t bring Bengtsson to a TKO.
Is this fighter exhausted or he has mistaken an MMA ring for a theatre stage?
4. Pedro Nobre fighting Iuri Alcantara
Jabs at the back of an opponent’s head are illegal, and Nobre knows that well. In fact, he acted ‘hurt’ on such spot to gain an advantage, which UFC President Dana White says he ‘doesn’t give a sh*t.’
5. John Halverson on his UFC 67 fight against Roger Huerta
Halverson was illegally knee-kicked in the head by Huerta… or so he says.
“It’s all shoulder. If he wants to pretend like he’s playing possum then that’s not my fault,” Huerta said. It clearly isn’t.
