Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and her head coach have done it again.
The flyweight women champion and his mentor, Manolo Hernandez, pulled off a Hawaiian-themed dress in the ceremonial weigh-ins of the Bellator 201.
The duo made heads turned on the event as they dressed up as the famous Disney pair, Lilo and Stitch. Macfarlane will defend her flyweight title against Alejandra Lara at Pechanga Resort today.
The 28-year old fighter was hailed from Honolulu, which is why they sported a Hawaiian-inspired outfit. However, it was not the first time they did such cute act.
Macfarlane and Hernandez channelled their inner Moana and Maui last year at the Bellator 186 official weigh ins.
It looks like the two will continue the trend in the next events and fans cannot say no to that.
They are equally wonderful. Not just inside the cage but also in pre-fight ceremonies.
Coming into the match, the defending champion believes that she has only a slight edge over her challenger.
“Physically, I’ve had opponents who were taller and longer than me, but none fought like her. It’ll be interesting to see where the fight goes. I feel confident everywhere the fight goes and I have a slight edge no matter where we end up.”
Macfarlane stressed that she does not feel any pressure about defending her title and sees her recent success as motivation to win the fight.
“I don’t feel pressured.”
“I feel excited. It’s awesome to see people posting the flyers and you see my face in the background. The other day Snoop Dogg posted the flyer on (social media) because he is rooting for Joey Davis, so I got my face, indirectly, on Snoop Dogg’s page. It just makes everything more exciting.”
The Hawaiian fighter and her opponent Alejandra have diferrent fighting styles. Macfarlane said that this would make the fight more interesting.
“I think that it’s going to be interesting stylistically. I’ve never faced anybody with Alejandra’s style. She’s extremely flexible and athletic. Her ground game looks really good. Her stand-up game looks like a Karate style with all the kicks and stuff.”
