Chuck Liddell Suspended Indefinitely After Knockout Loss

Former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz have been suspended by the California State Athletic Commission following their trilogy fight last weekend at The Forum.

Nine fighters from the Golden Boy Promotion’s inaugural mixed martial arts event, including Liddell and Ortiz, will be having a long layoff as the commission served them lengthy medical suspensions on Wednesday, as initially reported by MMA Fighting.

Aftermath

The 48-year old fighter returned to the cage last weekend to settle an unfinished business with his biggest rival. Liddell last fought in 2010 and the issue of rest vs rust has been brought up since the trilogy fight was announced. Many fans believed that both UFC Hall of Famers are past their primes, hence, the third chapter to their rivalry is no longer necessary.

When the dust settled, it was the younger fighter who came out on top after a masterful first-round knockout of Liddell. It was Ortiz’s first victory against ‘The Iceman’ after absorbing a pair of loss in their previous encounters.

As an aftermath of their fight, Liddell is placed under indefinite suspension by the CSAC due to health issues. This means his showdown with Ortiz could be his last appearance in the Octagon. Meanwhile, the 43-year old Ortiz could be sidelined for six months due to shoulder and knee injuries.

‘The Iceman’ reportedly took home a cool $250 000 fight purse on his MMA return while ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ took home $200 000. The first MMA offering from Oscar De La Hoy drew flak after some of its combatants received a fighter pay of just $1000.
