Can you see this happening anytime soon?
UFC is reportedly eyeing a featherweight bout between former title challengers Frankie “The Answer” Edgar and Chan Sung “The Korean Zombie” Jung for UFC 229 on October according to BJPENN.COM’s Chris Taylor.
The Answer’s impressive track record
Does this match up sound like a good idea?
Former UFC lightweight champion Edgar is coming off a dominant defeat of Cub Swanson at UFC 128 in April. Before such an impressive win, the Answer was knocked out by featherweight challenger Brian Ortega, which is the first strike-induced defeat of his career.
Some of the 36-year-old fighter’s most notable wins compose of his fights against Jim Edwards, Sean Sherk, BJ Penn (three times), Gray Maynard, Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes. Edgar’s win-loss record is currently at 23-6-1 overall.
The Zombie Apocalypse
The Korean Zombie last fought in February after returning from a four-year break in mixed martial arts. He knocked out long-time featherweight contender Dennis Bermudez in this notable match.
In June of 2017, the 31-year-old combatant was pulled off of a match against Ricardo Lamas due to an injury sustained in training. On an Instagram post last year, he shared the success of his operation:
“I am a person who can do this thing at any time. I have hurt countless colleagues. So I do not blame the friend who hurt me. I know it is because I do not have enough skills. I learn a lot. And again, I realized that there are many people waiting for my game. Sorry. I will be stronger and will return.”
“Everything has its reasons. There will be. #but it hurts too #korean zombie”
Going back to his MMA file, Chan sustained a phenomenal submission win over Leonard Garcia, a seven-second knockout of Mark Hominick, and historic brawls with Garcia and Dustin Poirier. The Korean MMA star currently owns an overall record of 14-4.
Currently, UFC 229 has yet to fill its fight card since no official bout has been logged except some rumours on the return of Conor McGregor and the first title defence of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Assuming this featherweight showdown comes to pass, who do you think will come out on top of the Korean Zombie vs Frankie Edgar fight?
