After months of rumours and speculations, UFC has confirmed that the biggest fight in the history of MMA will take place at UFC 229.
Recently, UFC announced during the UFC 25th anniversary press-conference that the most anticipated lightweight bout of the year is on. UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former champion Conor McGregor will meet face to face on UFC 229 on October 6th.
Prior to officially announcing the Nurmagomedov-McGregor bout, UFC also surprised its fans yesterday when they said Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz will be facing against each other at UFC 230.

McGregor is Finally Back
A lot of fans have been waiting for McGregor to return to the Octagon after a long absence. The last time he fought was last year when he went against one of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Despite McGregor being defeated by technical knockout in the 10th round, he was surely paid well. In fact, their match was dubbed as “The Money Fight” and “The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History.”
McGregor was last seen inside the Octagon in November 2016 when he earned the lightweight title after defeating Eddie Alvarez.
Khabib vs McGregor
On the other hand, Khabib has been active since he fought on the same card where McGregor was last seen. During that card, Khabib was able to defeat Michael Johnson over the course of three rounds before finishing him in the final round via submission.
After his victory over Johnson, the UFC’s first-ever Russian champion continued his winning streak as he dominated his next two fights. The next one was against Edson Barboza at UFC 219; then after defeating Al Iaquinta at UFC 223 this April, he claimed his UFC championship belt.
Biggest Fight In MMA History
This fight is expected to be one of this year’s biggest fights – possibly even over the course of MMA history. With a lot of UFC fans looking forward to watching the two rivals fight, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this event break all sorts of records.
