Report: Khabib Will Defend Lightweight Title In September

The past few months have been a silent tide for the UFC’s undefeated lightweight champion while serving his fighting ban for the highly-talked about UFC 229 post-fight melee last year. Dana White now reveals that the Russian phenom will be back in action in September.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently on the sidelines for receiving a nine-month suspension even though he’s holding a title in the esteemed promotion.

Despite initially saying that he will sit with his Russian brothers who have been ‘unfairly’ suspended for a year for their role in the all-out fracas, ‘The Eagle’ seemed to confirm his comeback in September after sharing the announcement on Twitter.

Once his ban expires and Ramadan is over, White says Khabib is ready to defend his 155-lb. belt once more.

Sit Out

The Russiam champ says he is prolonging his supposed nine-month fighting ban until November after his teammates, Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, were slapped with one-year suspensions.

In line with this, the unbeaten fighter has predicted that the UFC would create an interim title in his absence, which then seemed to be the real deal after White announced that he won’t let a champion sit out that long.

“Guys can’t sit out and wait that long if they have the title, you can’t do it.

To every mixed martial art fan’s delight, the promoter now reveals that Khabib is scheduled to re-enter the Octagon soon.

Be Back

He’ll be back in September,” White told UFC Unfiltered via Sport Bible.

It’s one of the things with him anyways, he’s on suspension and then he doesn’t fight during Ramadan. That puts him at September.”

MMA Team Dagestan on Twitter has also spread the word on Khabib’s confirmation of his upcoming comeback and its apparent date.

“Khabib just confirmed my report about September fight on his Russian social media page called VK. He reposted a post saying “According to Dana White, Khabib’s next fight will be in September.”

“Khabib’s next UFC fight will happen September 7. Screenshot this.”

One King

Khabib is coming out of a successful title defence over the UFC’s most famous star Conor McGregor, who happened to have announced his ‘retirement’ from fighting just this week.
