MMA Manager Says Khabib Is Now The Highest Paid Fighter With New UFC Deal

Reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has become the new highest paid fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.

On Tuesday, the Nevada-based promotion officially announced the Nurmagomedov vs Poirier unification bout that will headline the UFC 242 pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi on September 7.

Aside from this, it was also reported that the Russian champion has signed a new deal with the company, which includes a Georges St-Pierre fight clause, as there is only one fight left on his old contract.

“In addition to UFC 242, Khabib Nurmagomedov has signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC, per his manager Ali Abdelaziz,” ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported.

“Terms not disclosed, however, Abdelaziz said there is a clause in the contract in the event Khabib ever fights GSP. That’s apparently already been negotiated.”

The UFC broke the bank to lure Khabib into staying with the company in the foreseeable future that the new contract made him the highest paid fighter today said his manager.

“We Are Partners”

Following the announcement, Abdelaziz spoke to MMA Fighting and said his camp was thrilled to have landed the contract with the UFC, which he considered as one of the biggest contracts in the promotion’s history.

“We’re extremely happy,”

“We’re well taken care of. We can’t ask for any better. We very grateful.”

“Easiest negotiation I ever did. It was fair, straight to the point. This is one of the biggest deals in UFC history.”

“I don’t care Conor [McGregor], I don’t care this is one of the biggest guaranteed money [contracts] in UFC history.”

“When you do this kind of deal, people normally burn bridges. The bridges only got stronger, that’s all I’m going to say.”

“The UFC stepped up. They give us what we want and they made a good business decision on their behalf and they made us a partner.”

“We are all partners. We are in it together on this.”

Nurmagomedov remains unscathed in 11 UFC fights and in 27 overall professional bouts.

He captured the lightweight belt in April of 2018 against Al Iaquinta and defended the title for the first time against Conor McGregor, which catapulted Khabib to global fame.

“My opinion right now, Khabib is the pound-for-pound greatest fighter we’ve ever seen,”

“He never lost. He’s never been caught. He’s never been dropped.”

“He’s dominated every round against almost every opponent. No [performance-enhancing drugs], nothing.”

With this resume, the MMA manager is confident that the company will reward him with a lucrative contract, which makes him the highest paid athlete in the UFC.

“This is why he’s the highest-paid athlete in the UFC today.”

“Believe me. He’s the highest-paid athlete in the UFC today.”

“And I’m saying that again because I see everything. They showed me everything.”

“Khabib is the highest-paid athlete in the UFC and we are happy. It’s time to fight.”
