Very Soon

On his latest interview, the Dagestan phenom has hinted on some crucial developments on his next title defence. Khabib says he and the UFC are working on his potential comeback to headline a pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi.

“Yes, we are working on this,” Khabib confirmed during his annual meet-and-greet session with students of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics on Tuesday.

“UFC told me that they are working on this. I just came back from Dubai. And very soon news is coming. Very soon.”

According to the UFC titlist, the negotiations’ sticking point is the suspensions of his teammate and UFC featherweight Zubaira Tukgugov, and cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov who are both serving a one-year ban.

“[Tukgugov and Abubakar] either have to fight with me on the same event or before me, it is the main term of my comeback,” the 30-year-old said.

Holloway Vs Poirier

Aside from this, Khabib revealed that he will probably face the winner of the interim match between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 in Atlanta, Georgia.

“[Holloway and Poirier] are fighting for the interim belt, and the champion has to face the interim champion,” the Russian champ revealed.

“Tony Ferguson can’t fight at the moment, (Georges) St-Pierre is retired, McGregor is retired, a boxing match with Mayweather is not happening as we couldn’t come to an agreement with UFC.”

“Holloway and Poirier are great fighters, I will fight the winner of this bout,” he added.
