Khabib Nurmagomedov has already established a big name in the sports scene but there are still people he looks up to. One of them is the Egyptian professional booter, Mohamed Salah…
Fresh from defending his UFC lightweight strap against bitter rival Conor McGregor, the Dagestan phenom flew to the United Arab Emirates last week for a tour. In an interview with one of the country’s media outlets, Nurmagomedov expressed his admiration of Salah, lauding the professional conduct he brings in Europe as he plays for the Liverpool FC.

An Icon Recognizing Another Icon
Nurmagomedov scored the biggest victory of his career when he dispatched the former two-division champion in the main event of the UFC 229. ‘The Eagle’ remains as the first Russian and first Muslim to hold a championship belt in the prestigious promotion.
“It was the hardest fight for me, but he made fun of my religion and family and mocked me, here I decided to tell him all my messages and roses on the ring, and to teach him a lesson he will never forget. “
However, the win was overshadowed with a controversial post-fight brawl, which saw the Russian champ flying to the crowd to trade blows with McGregor’s cornerman, Dillon Danis. Both Khabib and Conor are now temporarily suspended until a hearing on December 10 decides the fate of both UFC stars.

Khabib is currently taking a time off from the issue as he is spending some great time in the Middle East country since last Thursday. In his first stop, the undefeated lightweight champ paid a visit to Al Wahda football club. Aside from meeting the club’s top officials and players, he also performed a demonstration with some of the jiu-jitsu practitioners in the club’s academy.
He then travelled to the country’s capital, Abu Dhabi, and spoke to newspaper outlet Al Ittihad for an interview, where he highlighted his admiration of Liverpool forward Mo Salah.
“I never met him before but I follow him, he is a great player and we need more people like him to reflect our ethics and present us properly to the rest of the world.”
He exclaimed that the Egyptian star is a great model for the young athletes because of the humility he displays amid his recent success.
“He made a name of himself because he is disciplined. The new generations need those who are like Mohamed Salah to learn more about how you can be modest, no matter how famous and innovative you are.”
“He’s an icon that we should take care of and help reach more success. I admire him and admire the ethics he is spreading every day in Europe.”
