Jorge Masvidal is being considered as one of the top options for the next title shot as the Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington negotiation turned ugly.
No. 1 contender Covington earned his shot at the welterweight gold after defeating Robbie Lawler at UFC on ESPN 5, stretching his winning streak to seven fights.
Covington is thrilled to have his title shot, which has been denied many times and has vowed to leave the reigning champion ‘crippled‘ in their fight scheduled at UFC 244 in New York this November.
However, the fight for the welterweight throne is now in jeopardy as ESPN’s Ariel Helwani revealed in a series of tweets saying that no official deal has been made yet.
“The Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington title fight is far from done,” Helwani divulged.
“In fact, negotiations have hit a snag and UFC is now looking at other options, sources say. Those options include a different welterweight title fight and-or a different main event.”
“The making of this fight has taken many twists and turns over the past few days, so there’s no telling if they end up with it.”
“But right now, it’s not in good standing and other options are being explored. Developing”

Covington could miss another shot at the welterweight title as the Nevada-based promotion is now exploring options for Usman.
It appears, though, that Masvidal, who is also in the top five of the welterweight rankings, could replace his American Top Team training partner for the November card.
“I’m partying too @USMAN84kg what’s the hold up? Sign the contract,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter.
While his manager, Malki Kawa, dropped a hint on a potential title fight for ‘Gamebred.’
“Nov 2nd… miami Fsu game… or championship fight at msg, which would you choose?”
Covington has yet to release a statement regarding the issue while some fans have shown their disappointment about Colby being on the brink of another title snub.

Masvidal has made it clear that his next fight should earn him a massive paycheck – as a reward for his historic five-second knockout at UFC 239 against Ben Askren.
“My next paycheck is going to reflect the breakthrough that I’ve done. For a fact. And if it doesn’t, there is going to be a f—king problem,” Masvidal said, per MMA Fighting.
“Me and my management are going to do whatever the f—k I say.”
“I’m going to repeat that again: Me and my management will do whatever the f—k we think is the best option for us.”
“If they open up the check book, I will fight King Kong in his prime.”
“All they gotta do is open up that check book. You guys all know the reason why you guys are here right now is to get an interview off of me, to put it online to make people go click-bait on it.”
“Obviously I’m generating traction.”

Do you think Masvidal should fight Usman for the title? Or the Masvidal-Diaz bout makes a better match-up?
