UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal vowed to give a ‘painful and brutal’ conclusion of his upcoming UFC 239 showdown with Ben Askren.
The welterweight pair is set to square off this weekend in the main card of UFC 239 at the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a potential title shot on the line.
‘Gamebred’ is fresh off a scary second-round knockout win of Darren Till at UFC London, allowing him to return to the win column after a two-fight slide.
He also took home an extra $100 000 bonus for the Performance of The Night and Fight of the Night honours.
Moments after this huge victory, the American fighter had a heated confrontation with Leon Edwards backstage, which gave birth to “three piece and a soda.”
MMA fans thought they were on track to face each other in the cage, but the UFC decided to book Masvidal against Askren, who most recently scored a come-from-behind win against Robbie Lawler.

The 34-year mixed martial artist has been absent in the previous pre-fight press conferences, which allowed Askren to own the spotlight during the build-up to their fight.
But on Wednesday’s open workout in Las Vegas, Masvidal finally faced the reporters during the question and answer segment and gave his thoughts about the welterweight clash with ‘Funky.’
Masvidal did not provide an exact prediction, whether it is a decision or knockout, but he guaranteed that the ending will be painful and brutal for Askren.
“We’re gonna do it painfully and brutally,” he said, per MMA Fighting.
“That’s for sure. I don’t like this dude as everybody here knows, so it’s gonna be brutal. It’s gonna be painful. I don’t know what round, but it’s gonna be painful.”
The American welterweight has won 33 fights in his 46 professional MMA bouts, with 14 of these victories came by way of knockout/technical knockout.

“This Is Different”
When asked if the fight would end as shocking as the Till knockout, Masvidal claimed that Askren’s fate might be worse than the Liverpudlian.
“This is different.”
“Darren Till woke up eventually, I don’t know if brother’s going to wake up.”
When his famous ‘three piece and a soda’ line was brought up, Masvidal said Askren will have different options to order this weekend.
“I’m gonna give him options.”
“We got all the way from the three-piece and the soda to the family pack with a two-liter soda, he can pick out what he wants.”
Do you agree with Masvidal’s prediction? Will he destroy Askren at UFC 239?
