Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal made history on Saturday night as he pulled off the fastest finish ever in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The American welterweight locked horns with Ben Askren in the main card of UFC 239 pay-per-view event at the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
What was expected as a barnburner affair turned out to be a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of fight.
Masvidal needed only five seconds to destroy the former Bellator and ONE championship kingpin.
Just right after the opening bell, a charging Masvidal hit Askren with flying knees, which sent ‘Funky’ down the mat.
‘Gamebred’ was soon on Askren, landing some punches to finish the fight in just five seconds into the opening round.
It was the fastest knockout in UFC history and a potential strong contender for the Knockout of the Year Recognition.
‘Gamebred’ broke Duane Ludwig’s 6-second KO record.

The American welterweight has now won 34 fights in his 47 professional MMA bouts, with 15 of these victories came by way of knockout/technical knockout.
In the open workout last Wednesday, he promised to give Askren a painful and brutal ending and on the night of their fight, he delivered.
“We’re gonna do it painfully and brutally,” he said, per MMA Fighting.
“That’s for sure. I don’t like this dude as everybody here knows, so it’s gonna be brutal. It’s gonna be painful. I don’t know what round, but it’s gonna be painful.”
“This is different.”
“Darren Till woke up eventually, I don’t know if brother’s going to wake up.”
“I’m gonna give him options.”
“We got all the way from the three-piece and the soda to the family pack with a two-liter soda, he can pick out what he wants.”
With the win, Masvidal is on track to take home the Performance of the Night bonus, while a title shot could be in the bag.

Masvidal is now on a three-fight winning streak while Askren has tasted the first defeat of his MMA career.
‘Funky’ never lost during his stints with Bellator MMA and ONE Championship.
“That dude was talking wild, man,” Masvidal said in the post-fight interview.
“I have to show you there’s consequences sometimes, there’s some bad (expletive) out there.”
