Israel Adesanya Wants To Fight Paulo Costa “Before USADA Gets Him”

Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya is now enjoying the spotlight as he captured the interim middleweight championship at UFC 236.

Just early last year, Adesanya made his debut at the UFC cage as a mere prospect.

After an impressive six-fight win streak, which saw him scored huge victories over Kelvin Gastelum, Anderson Silva and Derek Brunson, he has now secured a UFC gold and is set to fight for the undisputed title later this year.

“The Last Stylebender” survived  Gastelum’s tough challenge in the main event of UFC 236 last April 13.

The middleweight pair went back and forth and delivered a fight for the ages.

Adesanya bucked a slow start and dominated the second and third round.

Gastelum, known as one of the heavy hitters in the competition, refused to give up as he tied things up after the fourth round.

Adesanya restored order in the final round and knocked Gastelum down several times en route to winning the fight via unanimous decision victory.

    Costa Reacts To Adesanya’s Win

While the MMA world lauded Adesanya for scoring the biggest win of his career to date, his Brazilian counterpart, Paulo Costa, was having none of it.

In a social media post, Costa called Izzy a “fake champ” and told him to enjoy his recent success while they have yet to share the Octagon.

“Really this is the interim (fake) champ?”

“No doubt this weight division has already been better than this s**t.”

“Enjoy this while you can man, I really hope that you take the real belt one day to meet me.”

“Note: And I’m not the Gastelum.”

Just like Adesanya, Costa is also one of the biggest prospects in the middleweight division.

He has won all his four outings since his debut in 2017.

He was being linked to a showdown with Yoel Romero but the fight did not come to fruition as he reportedly tested positive to a banned substance.

    Adesanya Fires Back On Costa

Adesanya is also looking forward to meeting the Brazilian in the cage one day.

But for now, the interim middleweight champion is happy to battle Costa in a heated war of words.

In an interview at The MMA Hour, Adesanya has clapped back on Costa, following his recent criticisms.

“Fake champ? Does he have belt?. He wishes he was a fake champion as well”

“Didn’t he get popped for something recently? Like Açaí in the stomach or something?”

“I just want to get him before USADA gets him and eventually, if he climbs up the ranks like he thinks he will, then eventually we’ll see each other.”

“Gastelum is a tough guy and he got touched up by Uriah.”

“Did you see his face after the Uriah fight? He got touched up.”

Continuing, he labelled Costa as a “salty guy” and accused him of stealing the spotlight from him.

“A guy like [Costa] is salty. He’s salty because I’m the one getting the shine so they’re trying to steal my shine and I’m like ‘f*ck no.’”

“If you ain’t got haters then you ain’t doing it right.”

“I’m just saying no matter who you are you’re going to have haters. I just welcome it now,”
