As the highly-anticipated co-main event of UFC 234 starts to unfold, contender Israel Adesanya is giving the fans a little bit of what to expect on his upcoming performance.
The UFC held its traditional open workouts on Thursday ahead of its first pay-per-view offering this year on Sunday, February 10. Adesanya and Anderson Silva will co-headline the main event title match between Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum.
Went a Little Hard
After years of hard work in climbing up the combat sports’ pyramid and being a 4-fight wonder in the UFC, the ‘Last Stylebender’ is finally getting a shot against his long-time idol. Days ahead of his career’s most vital battle, the 29-year-old showcased what he got.
Mixed martial arts press and fight fans gathered at Federation Square in Melbourne to witness the open workouts promoting the UFC 234 fight card. Adesanya dropped his sparring partner with a pair of pro-wrestling finishes in what is supposed to be a simple demonstration.
First, the Kiwi mixed martial artist uncorked the ‘Stunner’ popularised by WWE star ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. He then followed it up by hitting the ‘Rock Bottom,’ a finishing WWE move made famous by the now-acclaimed-Hollywood-star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
“It gets crazy out here, with the remix. I think I went a little hard on John [sparring partner] with the chokeslam and I felt that. I even said sorry on the way up he was like, “my back!”
“I’ve never experienced anything like this before. It’s a little crazy you know. It was fun, I feel great,” Adesanya stated.
