Rising mixed martial arts star Israel Adesanya has no appetite for losing against his rivals inside and outside the cage.
Last weekend, the Kiwi sensation cemented his status as the next big thing in the sport after outlasting MMA legend Anderson Silva in a classic three-round contest at UFC 234 main event in Melbourne, Australia.
It was his sixteenth win overall in his professional career and his fifth straight in UFC, which could potentially land him a crack at the middleweight gold.
But not everyone was impressed with his performance as middleweight fighters Chris Weidman, and Paulo Costa called him “overrated” and a “scrawny clown,” following a convincing victory against “The Spider.”
But just like what he did during the Silva fight, the Last Styelebender had an answer to these jabs.
Israel Adesanya starred in a thrilling encounter with Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC 234 in front of the delighted Aussie fans.
Their middleweight showdown served as the headliner of UFC 234 after Robert Whittaker decided to withdraw from his title-defence fight against Kevin Gastelum.
Adesanya and Silva lived up to expectations as they brought fans to frenzy for providing some moments of brilliance, cage antics, and mind games.
Silva may have come short, but his vintage performance was enough to earn the respect of the MMA world including, of course, his younger opponent.
After their entertaining scrap, both fighters delivered one of the most iconic moments in the sport as the student and the master paid respect to one another.
While Adesanya has proved that he is a legit title contender after winning over an MMA legend, some were not thrilled with his performance. This includes UFC middleweight Chris Weidman and Paulo Costa, who both threw shade to the Kiwi after the UFC 234.
“Adesanya just a tad bit overrated,” Weidman wrote on Twitter.
Borranchinha also took to Twitter to mock Adesanya’s physique and his overall performance.
“This scrawny clown @styleblender would not survive for two rounds with me. He does not convince me definitely! My focus is total on Romero in April,” said Costa.
Appearing on the latest episode of The MMA Hour, the undefeated middleweight has responded to these remarks.
Adesanya called the former champion “heavily overrated” and offered him to find out how overrated he is after he captures the 185-lb belt.
“Chris Weidman, I’m overrated, but why?”
“Because he beat Silva a little more handily than me? Overrated? Interesting.”
“I can say the same thing about him, heavily.”
“When I get this belt in my next fight, they can all line up, and they can find out how overrated I am.”
“Chris Weidman, that’s his opinion. But, I don’t have to pay attention. But, overrated is interesting.”
He then set the Costa on fire, calling him a “juice monkey” and made fun of his fighting style.
“Now, the juice monkey Paula. Paula, a bitch.”
“What did he say? See, the fight between me and Silva was physical chess on the highest level of striking.”
“If you’re not about footwork, man, it was beautiful to watch.”
“Uriah Hall was jabbing him up, how the fuck is he going to hit me with those T-Rex arms?”
“If I’m behind those jabs, things that follow up will be much, much different. A guy like that should just focus on what he gots next in Yoel Romero.”
Adesanya ended the interview with a strong message for his doubters.
“Let them talk. They are just trying to get some shine because I’m in the spotlight and I don’t give a fuck about what they’re doing. I’m here living my best life.”
