On Wednesday night, Iran has successfully put its name on the most talked-about teams for the World Cup. Not because it did a fantastic game and won, but because one of their football players did a major flop.
Late in injury time, Iran’s fullback Milad Mohammadi is to discharge a throw-in into the Spain box. At first, the hopeful player looked to the sky, prayed for his throw-in to work and kissed the ball.
Before doing the flip
Are we expecting an iconic somersault throw in from Iran in their match against Spain in Group B?
It turns out we are!
Mohammadi attempted a somersault throw-in after taking a quick step back. But instead of releasing the ball after the flip, he stopped and backed out.
Iran was down 1–0 in stoppage time when the player is left to throw the ball. It’s a little before 93 minutes and 30 seconds had been played in the game.
He then made a routine throw to a teammate after wasting almost 30 seconds.
The two prior moments that made this failed attempt the funniest is his ball-kissing and sky-looking preparation. People are now asking, did he change his mind or he just failed the flip?
Either way, this man is going down in history! He’s probably thinking, “if I can’t make a name for being a great player, I might as well do something weird, so they’ll have something to remember.”
Iran lost the game and but they aren’t out of the competition. If they perform as they did on Wednesday, the notable team will have a chance against Portugal next week.
Watch the greatest flip throw-in in the World Cup history!

😅😂 Bsck in the day, I think Steve Watson at Newcastle could do those front flip throw ins. It would’ve been dope if my man could’ve pulled it off & Iran scored from it
