A lot of UFC fans were extremely disappointed when it was announced that Max Holloway won’t be fighting with Brian Ortega at UFC 226.
Many criticized Holloway for pulling out from the pay-per-view event in just a few days notice. Some didn’t even believe that he had ‘concussion-like symptoms’ and assumed that he was just afraid to fight Ortega.
On the other hand, Ortega decided not to join UFC 226, despite being offered short-notice opponents in replace of Holloway. He tweeted: “It is what is. We’ll run this s**t later.”
Ortega has also received a lot of hate comments for turning down the offers, but the undefeated UFC featherweight contender says he stands by his decision.
Holloway’s ‘Concussion-like’ Symptoms
When the news broke that Holloway pulled out, even UFC President Dana White said he had no idea on what’s happening. But with what it looks like, White said that the UFC Featherweight champion won’t be fighting anytime soon.
However, during a recent interview with Kevin Iole, White reveals that Holloway has been reported to be drinking too much water to lose weight.
“We heard that he was water loading, which is super dangerous,” White said. “When you water load, and I didn’t know this for those of you out there that might not know, either, there is such thing as water poisoning. And you can actually drink too much water and die from it.”
Doctors Say That Holloway Had Stroke-Like Symptoms
In Below the Belt with Brendan Schaub, the host, who’s also a retired UFC fighter, discussed his thoughts on the UFC 226 fights.
When Schaub brought up Holloway’s condition, he revealed that he heard about what really happened to the UFC featherweight champ.
He says that doctors said that the champ’s “concussion-like” symptoms could be signs of a mini-stroke.
“But I heard when he was cutting weight, I heard it got really scary,” Schaub said. “I heard it got so scary where a doctor was like, you know, this could be a sign of a small f*c*in, not a heart attack, but stroke.”

Although this is yet to be confirmed by Holloway and his team, we hope the champ gets better soon.
