They say animals have the capacity to feel. They have emotions and social connections that are as important to them as they are to us. And when we say animals, of course, cats are included.
Felines are one of the most popular pet choices in every household today—we wouldn’t be surprised if you own one or a few right now.
So if you’re here for some cat content, meet Grandpa Mason—a feral cat who spent the last hours of his life cuddling kittens. His life story will surely touch your heart.
The Story of the ‘Feral’ Grandpa Cat
Known as Grandpa Mason, this fatally ill feral cat got to spend his the last moments of his life surrounded by some fellow kittens—just as he would have wanted it.
His saviours described him as one of the oldest feral tabbies they’d ever seen. Unfortunately, the grandpa cat was suffering from kidney disease. Despite his severe condition, the rescuers wanted to provide him with a comfortable home to live out his remaining days.
But before this unfortunate event happened, the battle-scarred cat actually became a viral sensation after being brought in by a rescue group called Tiny Kitten in Langely during 2016.
Tiny Kitten is a known rescue organisation around the world for its work bringing in, neutering, and re-homing cats. They often document their rescues through live streams, which are being watched worldwide.
Health Complications
On Wednesday, Tiny Kitten shared a post on social media regarding Grandpa Mason’s health condition. They stated, “Tiny Kittens posted on social media Wednesday, “Grandpa Mason’s test results from this afternoon show his kidneys have failed. We were not expecting it to happen this fast.”
“With the certainty that his body is failing fast, the most important gift we owe him is the dignity of a peaceful and painless transition before he reaches a point of suffering.”
The Story Behind “Grandpa” in Mason’s Life
Mason had a soft spot for kittens. He loved being surrounded by them, according to the rescuers. With that, he became known as a “grandpa”.
Before, he had trouble adjusting to life in a new home and being surrounded by humans, but when two foster kittens came along, his life has changed.
Every time a new litter of foster cats came in, Grandpa Mason would always welcome, play and cuddle with them.
“His impact will live on, and he will continue to change the narrative about feral, old, sick, ‘different’ cats. We will make sure of it,” the Tiny Kitten added.
