Floyd Mayweather Jr. has fought an MMA fighter before, scoring a TKO victory against Conor McGregor in 2017. Now that another mixed martial artist is calling him out, “Money” has the same condition.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s callout for a Mayweather fight has circulated the Internet for a while, waiting for an official response and contract to make it happen. And to everyone’s delight, one of boxing’s greatest has opened his door — but only to the boxing ring.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has called out Floyd Mayweather in the hope he can do what Conor McGregor failed to do, saying "in the jungle there is only one king".
In an interview with CNN Talk Asia’s Anna Coren, the 41-year-old refused to see a video of UFC Dana White suggesting him to fight the lightweight champion in the Octagon.
“I don’t have to see that. Last time Dana White spoke, he said me and Conor McGregor won’t be in a boxing match.”
“I think Dana White is a great person, a great guy but we don’t know what the future holds. Sometimes I say I’m retired but guess what — I come right back.”
Khabib retained his undefeated record of 27-0 after a nasty submission win against McGregor at UFC 229. Wanting to overstep the Irish star’s failed crack at Mayweather, he called the retired boxer out for a mega-fight afterwards.
The former five-weight world champion made it clear that the mega-bout will only happen in his world. He also urged the Russian fighter to consider the monetary reward it’ll bring him, saying it’s way more than the numbers he made in defeating “The Notorious.”
“If Khabib wants to fight in a boxing match, we can. If he wants to go to UFC and make the money that he’s been making, he can.”
“When Khabib fought McGregor, he made $3-4million. When you fight me you’re going to make way more.”
“It’s about entertainment. Conor McGregor was never on a Forbes list. Once he competed against me, he was up high on the Forbes list.”
Continuing, Mayweather who just denied his alleged MMA debut against Tenshin Nasukawa with Japan’s Rizin FF, arrogantly explained why he doesn’t need a UFC bout.
“I don’t need to fight in the octagon. I’m the A-side. I still got nine figures easily. I’m happy and I feel good.”
