As a result, the lineup for UFC 226 card in Las Vegas has been reset as the co-main event title fight has been cancelled.
With four fights remaining in the main card, UFC recently announced that they will move the lightweight fight between Paul Felder(15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) and Mike Perry (11-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC). The bout was only put together a week ago, but because of an unexpected turn of events, it will be moved from prelims to the middle of the main card.
Lewis-Ngannou as the co-main event
In lieu of the Holloway vs Ortega fight, the new co-main event will be the heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis (19-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) and recent title challenger Francis Ngannou (11-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC).
The UFC 226 will take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on Saturday. The main card will be aired on pay-per-view, following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
The new UFC 226 lineup
The original plan for Felder was to fight James Vick on July 14 in the UFC Fight Night 133. However, Vick was moved to a headlining spot at UFC Fight Night 135 in August, fighting against Justin Gaethje.
This sudden news caused frustration to Felder as he already lost two fights within a range of four months. But, he was invited to fight Perry on UFC 226 as Yancy Medeiros won’t be able to fight because of a rib injury.
With these adjustments made, UFC 226 card is once again complete. Despite the removal of Holloway vs Ortega, the lineup is still sick.
However, there will only be 12 bouts instead of 13. And of course, we are all looking forward to the main event between heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) and light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier (20-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC), fighting for Miocic’s belt.
