England is Going Home Early
The English national team ended its hope for its second World Cup trophy after Croatia handed them the semifinals defeat Wednesday afternoon in Russia.
After drawing first blood in the scoreboard, Croatia came from behind and vanquished the Three Lions, 1-2, to book its first Finals appearance in the World Cup.
It was a brilliant start for England as they went to a total domination of the first half.
British Kieran Trippier waxed hot early in the match. He gave England its lone goal with just five minutes of actions. Trippier nailed the free-kick to go for a 1-0 lead. The British squad had a chance to extend the lead to two, or even three, but Croatia’s goalkeeper put two crucial stops.
But Croatia went on to tie the match with Ivan Perisic delivering a brilliant flickered strike. They then scored another goal in the extra time to put the nail in the coffer, 2-1. It was the third time Croatia survived the same scenario after they edged heavyweights Russia and Denmark in their two previous matches.
England, who also reached the semis in 1990, wasted a golden opportunity to snap its two-decade drought.
The Three Lions had Croatia in the ropes. But they failed to capitalize on this chance as they allowed the Zlatko Dalic-backed team to regroup after the break.
Harry Kane’s attempt ended up hitting the post while Raheem Sterling and Jesse Lingard missed open looks.
So the rejuvenated Croatians kicked off the crucial second half with greater energy.
In this stage, the Brits looked more exhausted, with Jordan Henderson filling the role of two players. That cost them big time as Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic were able to dictate the tempo of the game.
England set its foot to the World Cup 2018 with a mantra: It’s Coming Home.
A bold message to the rest of the world that they are on their way back to the country’s glory days.

But instead of Football Coming Home, England was sent home when they were just one step away from their goal.
It was a disappointing conclusion to England’s campaign but they still had a great run in the prestigious cup.
