Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier took the fighting community by storm after outplaying featherweight titlist Max “Blessed” Holloway to win the interim lightweight belt, earning himself a title shot vs Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Just this weekend, The Diamond proved his doubters wrong when he emerged victorious over Blessed via unanimous decision in their nailbiting main event match at
It was the Louisiana-born Poirier’s second victory over the Hawaiian fighter Holloway after spoiling the latter’s UFC debut in 2012 through a first-round submission win.
Having seized the 155-lb. division’s interim belt, Poirier is now set to challenge the lightweight king Khabib and has dropped another massive hint on their highly-awaited battle.

Earned With Blood
On Saturday night, The Diamond snapped Blessed’s 13-fight winning streak after surviving their five-round battle at the State Farm Arena.
Poirier is now looking forward to challenging Khabib for the lightweight belt.
Though the undefeated Russian fighter is not a fan of Poirier’s recent victory, he says he is prepared to meet The Diamond for his comeback in September.
“I don’t agree with the judges 49:46, I got a draw, my respect to both fighters, and Poirier’s achievement so far cannot be denied, my congratulations Dustin, see you in September. 🦅 vs 💎,” Khabib tweeted.
Title to Fight For
Khabib is still sitting on his nine-month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for his role on the ugly post-fight fracas at UFC 229 in September. Despite this, the undefeated fighter hinted on the potential opponent for his Octagon return.
And with the Russian champ being eligible to compete again in July and is reportedly set to make his comeback in September, Poirier didn’t waste the chance to call him out, the Daniel Cormier way.
Taking it to Twitter, Poirier has also released another solid trace towards his potential title shot vs Khabib, saying: “Gonna be a September to remember! #undisputed”
