Dustin Poirier Sends Message To Khabib After UFC 236

Dustin Poirier took a page out of Daniel Cormier’s playbook to call out Khabib Nurmagomedov to a fight.

“The Diamond” starred in an epic encounter with Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 236 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

It was a rematch that was seven years in the making. Poirier spoiled his rival’s debut in 2012 when he submitted him at UFC 143.

With the interim lightweight title on the line, the 30-year old American reasserted his mastery over the featherweight champion.

He survived Holloway in a pulsating five-round contest and earned a unanimous decision victory in their rematch, which also ended the Hawaiian’s 13-fight winning streak.

He is now set to face the lightweight kingpin next in a unification bout this September.

And as expected, Poirier called out Khabib in an interview with colour commentator Joe Rogan after his impressive UFC 2367 win.

Unification Bout

Poirier brought the upset axe on Saturday night as he stunned Holloway in their return fight to capture the interim lightweight championship.

In yet another potential Fight of the Year contender, “The Diamond” survived the Hawaiian fighter in a five-round war on his way to the biggest win of his career.

Finally, Poirier has proved all his doubters that he is a legit contender for the 155-pound throne. The win sets him up for a date with Nurmagomedov for his highly-anticipated return from suspension.

Moments after his huge victory over “Blessed,” he told the reigning champ that they have a business to settle.

“This feels amazing. I feel like I’m in a dream right now.”

“I just beat the pound-for-pound best in the world. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Damn, I feel good.”

“I’ve earned this with blood. Paid in full, this is mine.”

“In the words of our own Daniel Cormier, get your s— together young man, we have a title to fight for,” he told the Russian champion.

Khabib is currently serving his NSAC suspension. He will be eligible to compete again this July, while reports already claimed that he is set to return to the cage in September.

“Khabib’s next UFC fight will happen September 7.

The undefeated lightweight champ, meanwhile, said Abu Dhabi could play host to the unification title bout. Can Poirier beat another champion?

Or will Khabib prevail?
