Dominick Cruz Owns Up to His Mistakes
The 33-year old Dominick Cruz was once dubbed as the greatest fighters in the 135lb-division.
But in a bitter twist of fate, his career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship was cut short due to injuries.
After sustaining a pair of knee injuries, The Dominator broke his arm recently. Considering the physicality in the competition, these setbacks will really put you in a fighting hiatus.
Since he set foot in the octagon seven years ago, Cruz took the spotlight for just five times. And now with a broken arm, the 33-year old mixed martial artist has yet to land any fight this year.
The more frustrating part is his return is still uncertain. On the bright side, Cruz is now recovering after undergoing surgery.
But if there is one regret Cruz has, that is his decision after he suffered the arm injury.
He believed it cost him these futile years in the UFC.
“What happened is broke my arm and the bone didn’t shift, so since it didn’t shift I didn’t get surgery right away.”
Had he taken that opportunity, it could have been a different story for Cruz.
Eager to Bounce Back
The sad part is it made the situation worse for him.
“They said, ‘The bone will fill in the gap on its own, it will heal and everything will be okay.’ Three and a half months later, that did not take place. The bone did not fill in and since I did not get surgery, the bone was not strong.”
But he sees no one to blame but himself for the unfortunate turnaround on his MMA career.
Months after the surgery, Cruz has begun his work to get back to shape. He said he is now just waiting for a clearance from his doctor before he can negotiate for his next fight.
“Now that I’ve had the surgery, I’m finally healing and I’m finally training again and doing my thing. But I still have time before it’s cleared by the doctor from that surgery. It seems like forever because the first three months I was waiting to heal and it didn’t heal.”

With Cruz unavailable to fight, his rivals have taken over his reign as the UFC bantamweight champion. So for his future returns, he wants to face either TJ Dillashaw or Cody Garbrandt. Cruz edged Dillashaw in their January 2016 fight while Grabrandt snatched the title from him.
