After defeating Cody Garbrandt by TKO in the first round, TJ Dillashaw showed the world once again that he’s the best 135-pound fighter in the UFC.
Current champion Dillashaw and former titleholder Garbrandt headline tonight’s UFC 227 event in Los Angeles. While fans patiently waited to witness the main event, it didn’t take too long for Dillashaw to end the match.
After stopping Garbrandt at the 4:10 mark of Round 1, Dillashaw (16-3), earned his second straight win over Garbrandt (11-2). The opponents were former Team Alpha Male colleagues who suddenly turned into bitter rivals.
They first met at November’s UFC 217 event in New York to where California native Dillashaw was looking to reclaim his title. Garbrandt dropped Dillashaw in the first round, but on the second round, the current champion was able to earn a knockout victory.

Garbrandt came forward early at the beginning of the first round, marching toward the centre of the Octagon as soon as referee Herb Dean shouted ‘fight’.
He dropped Dillashaw with a right hand in the middle of the round but was able to recover. When Dillashaw got back to his feet, he took down Garbrandt in return, but he got out of it as well.
When with less than a minute left on the first round, the current bantamweight champion dropped Garbrandt once again and guaranteed that himself another title defence. Dillashaw dropped his opponent twice, showered him with right hands, then landed a big knee in the clinch before referee Dean called a halt to proceedings.
Dillashaw Accepts Callout from Henry Cejudo
With Dillashaw’s recent victory, he has now won for the eighth time in his nine fights. While Garbrandt, who suffered his first loss to Dillashaw after being undefeated for four years, is now on his second straight loss.
“I believe I’m the best of all-time at bantamweight,” Dillashaw said after defeating Garbrandt.
Meanwhile, he also accepted the callout from the new UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo, who claimed the belt after defeating Demetrious Johnson. Cejudo said he is ready to go up to 135 pounds and challenge Dillashaw for the bantamweight title.
