One of the most controversial fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to return to the cage as Nate Diaz will make a comeback this summer to lock horns with Anthony Pettis.
Diaz is to return to the Octagon on a welterweight match against former lightweight champion Pettis on August, ending his two-year fighting hiatus.
Stockton’s favourite son, Diaz, has verbally agreed to face “Showtime” Pettis at UFC 241, co-headlining the highly-anticipated main event rematch between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
The welterweight showdown will feature the 34-year-old’s fighting comeback since suffering a decision loss over Conor McGregor in 2016.
Californian phenom and Interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was supposed to meet Diaz at the opposite side of the Octagon in 2018.
But Poirer was forced to withdraw due to an injury — and reportedly for Poirer also ‘over-negotiating’ the match-up.

Despite being inactive from mixed martial arts for over two years, Nate Diaz has been involved in a series of rumoured bouts.
Some of his reported opponents were McGregor—his most famous rival, Georges St. Pierre, and lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, with whom he had a verbal feud as well.
The Stockton fighter has also said in a recent statement that he should be boxing in a ring instead of fighting in a cage.
“I should be boxing these guys,” Diaz posted on Facebook following the phenomenal unification bout between Saul’ Canelo’ Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs last May 04. “I’m stuck in a cage though.”
Early in 2016, Diaz submitted McGregor via rear-naked choke in Las Vegas.
In a matter of five months, the pair re-entered the fighting cage, and the Irish star was able to seize the second victory by winning the judges’ scorecards.
The former Strikeforce and WEC contender has not fought since then and is now reportedly on the verge of securing a return fight vs Pettis at UFC 241.
Along with the fighters’ photo, UFC President Dana White personally announced the match-up for the promotion’s Anaheim card on Twitter saying:
“Diaz vs Pettis co-main event August 17th at 170lbs. in Anaheim”

Milwaukee native Pettis is coming off a sensational welterweight debut in March where he defeated Stephen Thompson with an outrageous superman-punch KO at UFC Nashville.
Diaz, on the other hand, holds a professional MMA record of 19 wins and 11 losses, obtaining some of his most notable victories against McGregor, Donald Cerrone, and Gray Maynard.
The Stockton phenom’s upcoming match against Pettis could produce the next welterweight title contender.
Meanwhile, UFC 241 is happening in August, and it is currently shaping up as an extremely-stacked card.
After seizing the belt in July, former champ-champ DC has finally granted ex-heavyweight titlist Miocic a well-deserved rematch that will serve as the main event match.
Also scheduled for this card is a middleweight battle between highly-ranked contenders Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa.
