After a few years of absence from UFC, it looks like Nate Diaz is finally ready to fight again.
Diaz (19-11) had not entered the Octagon since August 2016 when he lost to McGregor via majority decision at UFC 202. Since then, the former UFC lightweight title challenger said he wouldn’t return unless it were a ‘big’ fight.
Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier both expected at the UFC press conference tomorrow in LA, I’m told. First time Diaz will participate in an official UFC media event in a very long time. #UFC230

Earlier this year, Diaz gave out hints on social media that he would return soon. His upcoming bout with Poirier will be his first lightweight fight since he defeated Michael Johnson in December 2015. Coincidentally, Dustin Poirier’s last defeat was against Johnson in 2016.
Poirier vs Diaz at UFC 230
Poirier (24-5, 1 NC) recently earned his third consecutive win after defeating Alvarez at UFC Calgary main event. He is also unbeaten in his last five fights, which brings him closer to a title shot.
In recent reports, Poirier said that he isn’t going to answer the phone until he was offered a title fight, if the opponent is worth it, or if he was going to be paid right.
His upcoming bout with Diaz isn’t apparently a title fight, but Poirer’s requirement regarding the opponent and the pay must have been met for him to accept.
As of now, it still isn’t official on who’s going to be featured on the UFC 230 main event. But the matchups are pretty exciting with a middleweight rematch between former champs Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman. It will also include middleweight contenders Derek Brunson and Israel Adesanya.
While everyone is still waiting for the official announcement of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor fight, UFC surprised its fans with this great matchup.
Tony Ferguson’s absence due to his injury also propelled Poirer to facing against big names inside the Octagon. Even Khabib expressed his interest in fighting him whenever he’s asked on whom he would like to fight instead of McGregor.
With Diaz now in the picture, it makes it all the more exciting to look forward to the next surprises from UFC.
Diaz vs Poirier at UFC 230 is expected to officially be announced by the UFC tomorrow at their 25th-anniversary press conference, as reported by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.
