The saga continues as ex-boxing-champion-turned-promoter, Oscar de la Hoya fires back at UFC President White after he slammed the Golden Boy chief for allowing Liddell to star the debut of his MMA promotions at 48.
It’s Called Friendship
De la Hoya initially cut the UFC chief to bits when he belittled how the esteemed MMA promotion cares for and pays its fighters. White then retaliated to the boxing promoter calling him a “cokehead junkie” who don’t even remember the names of his fighters on the card.
Unlike White who knew from the start that a trilogy fight between Liddell and Ortiz would be a bona fide disaster, de la Hoya turned it to reality on his Golden Boy MMA’s launching event.
The former 10-time world boxing champion says Dana has no right to tell a fighter when to retire, referring to ageing Liddell. The UFC president then reacted to the result of the Liddell-Ortiz fight which worried many fans about ‘The Iceman’s’ health.
Now, here’s de la Hoya firing back at White in an interview at TMZ Sports, pointing out that White is simply threatened by the new competition in town.
“Dana is so small and threatened by our success with DAZN and now in MMA that he is bringing up news from a decade ago to try to stay relevant.”
”Boxing has entirely rejected him. And, MMA fighters are now realizing they don’t have to risk their lives just so he can get rich. Golden Boy and I are moving forward and are bigger than ever.”
“Dana should shut the f*ck up and try to figure out how to save his own company.”
