Cyborg vs Nunes for the UFC Featherweight Title Shot Bout Date
The women’s featherweight champion made a complaint on Twitter about the UFC sending contracts with a December 30th date, which would be ten months since she last fought in March. 10 months is too long for to wait for UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.
Most of the MMA call out battle on social media is whether the opponent would fight with the challenger or not but not with these two! 30-year old Nunes (16-4 MMA, 9-1 UFC) posted a picture of a signed contract for Dec. 29 on Twitter, when UFC 232 is set to take place, while 33-year old Cyborg (20-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) pushed for a fight on Sept. 8 at UFC 228 on her Instagram post.
Cyborg, who hasn’t fought for since March when she stopped Yana Kunitskaya in the first round at UFC 222, made her impatient and frustrated.
“When you challenge, you have to be prepared for the time that the fight happens. I find it disrespectful to myself, waiting for the person for a year. I have no problem fighting Amanda on December 29, she wants some time to prepare. But I believe I could fight before and at least not wait all this time, because we get paid when we fight, and you do not get paid when you don’t fight.”
“Friday, last week, I talked to the UFC, and I said I wanted to fight, that I’m ready to fight,” Cyborg said on a Brazillian Show Combat News. “I’ve been training, ready, and I want to fight. They offered me September, the 8th, in Dallas, to fight Amanda. I said that’s fine. I’ll fight. I’ve been training. I’m ready. A champion has to be ready all the time.”
Cyborg’s Last Fight in the UFC?
“There are girls that can fight from my category,” she said. “Only they do not want it, they want me to fight only with Amanda. Only we have to wait ten months, almost a year for this fight to happen!”
It appears that she’s really unhappy about it and that made her sound uninterested in re-signing with the UFC once her contract ends early next year. Cyborg’s contract will expire after two more fights or in March of 2019.
”I think this fight will be my last in the UFC, because my contract goes until March and I doing this fight in December, I think it will be the last one the guys will see me fight.”
Oh no! We might not get to see a lot more of her in the Octagon next year!
