The new “Champ Champ” managed to knock out Stipe Miocic in the first round of their bout at UFC 226. Miocic was the longest reigning heavyweight champion, having defended his belt for three times. So, it was a great accomplishment for Cormier, and for many UFC fans, that he was able to win over him in a few minutes.
And now, it seems like Cormier is finally ready to put his light heavyweight title on the line after responding to a Twitter call out. Social media has eventually become a new Octagon for many UFC fighters as they tend to use it to express opinions, make statements, and even for matchmaking.
Light Heavyweight Fighter Calls Out DC
The two-division titleholder has been very vocal about retiring on March 2019, as he turns 40 years old. That means he has only less than a year until the end of his UFC career.
But with the controversial shoving match at UFC 226 wherein Cormier called out former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, he’s now looking to get the biggest payout ever. However, that isn’t happening until early 2019 as Lesnar should complete six months of USADA testing before becoming eligible to fight again.
With a lot of people coming forward to fight Cormier, Corey Anderson might be the lucky one. While still riding high on his UFC Hamburg victory over Glover Teixeira, Anderson took to Twitter his invitation to fight the dual-division champ.
Yo @dc_mma ,
They said a win over me and Glover would earn a title shot..I beat em, media said you wanted Shogun and he lost, you told Gus off, and you already fought Volkan.. I'll never "call you out" out of respect. But I'm 100% down to fight you. #UFC @ufc #letsdoit

Cormier, on the other hand, immediately agreed to Anderson, saying:
Ok , sure just find out when and where. I’ll be there. I always am!

Apparently, DC is interested in defending his light heavyweight belt while waiting for the match against Lesnar. As Anderson stated, with Alexander Gustafsson and Volkan Oezdemir injured, and Shogun riding a loss, he might just be the best option for the title shot.
Anderson took Cormier’s word and reacted after successfully getting a YES from the champ.
Many UFC fighters have already been bumped off the list to fight Cormier after Lesnar’s sudden UFC comeback. Do you think Anderson deserves the title shot over other fighters waiting in line?
