There are just some pretty phenomenal events in history that takes a while before people can fully move on; in the MMA sphere, it’s UFC 229.
In case you’re living under the rocks, Khabib Nurmagomedov gave Conor McGregor a bitter welcome on his highly-awaited Octagon return at the main event of UFC 229 in October. The Dagestan phenom retained his lightweight title and stretched his winning streak to 27 fights after tapping ‘The Notorious’ out with a fourth-round rear-naked choke.
The Khabib-Conor showdown was so big it turned out to be the second largest gate in UFC history and banked the highest pay-per-view revenue ever at 2.4 million buys. It also led to the fourth defeat in McGregor’s career and the first loss of his fighting comeback.
Nearly two months after the historic bout that ended up in an ugly brawl from both fighters’ end, social media users are still dwelling in the loss of the UFC’s most prominent star. McGregor’s recent Instagram posts weren’t spared from critics’ UFC 229 remarks.
In an upload from this week, it’s still the Khabib-McGregor match that commenters are talking about though entirely irrelevant from the posted image. Users wrote:
mahach_77_: “What a straight-up gangster Khabib is. After doing everything he said he was going to do to the chicken, he goes to Africa and helps build wells, so people have clean water to drink while the chicken goes on a whiskey tour to help people get drunk because he wants “Diddy money”. Khabib is a champion inside and outside the cage.”
collin_p15: “@thenotoriousmma you should Fight Cerone next. You are out of his league, but honestly, right now I feel like the best thing would be to get another win under your belt then possibly fight Tony after if you win that guarantee, you’ll get the rematch against Khabib.”
assasin0004: “Habib killed makchiken😂.”
_anesali: “Speaking of beats, remember the beating Khabib gave you.”
muk_minus: “Wow, I like this pic, reminds me how Khabib choked him.”
afshantase: “The sharks won’t eat you cuz they know you will rush for the tap you are just the best tapper the world has ever seen.”
Despite all the hate comments, some fans remain at McGregor’s team, paying credit to the first-ever two-division champ’s impressive career.
