Conor McGregor Issues Statement To Khabib’s ‘Security Guards’ After NSAC Ruling

Conor McGregor has broken his silence about the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s final verdict on the infamous UFC 229 brawl.

The Irish star and his rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, were both slapped with hefty fines and lengthy suspensions for their roles in the ugly post-fight fracas that ensued after their massive clash in the main event of UFC 229 last October.

McGregor believed that NSAC’s decision was “fair,” finding Khabib as the instigator of the violence following his fourth-round submission win. “The Notorious” will sit out for six months but he is already looking forward to his next Octagon appearance.

The Brawl

In case you are living under the rocks, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor starred in an ugly-post fight brawl moments after their historic clash at UFC 229.

The Russian champ retained his lightweight championship strap and stretched his winning streak to 27-0 after submitting the returning McGregor in the fourth round with a rear-naked choke. To the surprise of many, Khabib jumped into the cage and attacked Conor’s cornerman, Dillon Danis.

It then sparked bigger brawls inside and outside the T-mobile arena, which saw the former double-champion throwing hands with Khabib’s teammates. Both lightweight stars were suspended indefinitely by the NSAC until a complete investigation to the case is completed.

On Tuesday, the sanctioning body conducted its final hearing to the case and came up with the decision to serve the lightweight pair with hefty fines and lengthy suspensions.

The UFC lightweight champion was slapped with $500 000 fine and will sit out for nine months, but will be shortened to three months if he attends the Anti-bullying PSA. McGregor, meanwhile, was fined $50 000 and will be suspended for six months.

Khabib has already spoken out about the NSAC decision, saying that it was purely political. He also uploaded a photo with a caption “wake me up when it’s all over,” probably referring to the suspension that will stop him from competing in the cage.

While Khabib was not happy with the verdict, McGregor said that the decision was “fair” and went on to thank the commission for handling the case well. Taking to Twitter, the ex-double champ issued his statement on the UFC 229 brawl hearing.

“I am thankful for the Nevada athletic commissions fair assessment and handling of the brawl incident. It was not my intention to land the final blow of the night on my opponent’s blood relative. It’s just how it played out. I look forward to competing again soon. Thank you all.”

“Straight left hand inside the attacker’s jab. He attempted to use the big security guard that’s in all the movies as cover, but I could smell him a mile away and landed flush down the pipe. The final blow of the night UFC 229 in association with McGregor Sports and Entertainment.”

The UFC 229 post-fight brawl case may have been settled but the incident will never die. Expect the promotion to turn to this ugly fracas when it’s time for the build-up of the McGregor and Nuramagomedov rematch.
