UFC’s most famous star Conor McGregor has been involved in various controversies inside and outside the cage. He’s violated a speed limit, carried out a bus attack and has been wrapped up in thousands of scraps against other personalities in the sport.
After a nasty submission defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov last year, Conor has not yet signed up to any fight for 2019. However, reports say that he is currently negotiating a grudge match against former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi, whom he recently had a beef with.
Malignaggi and the dual-division champion have some kind of bitter history. Before exchanging harsh words on social media, the pair was once partners inside the sparring ring.
The 38-year-old boxer has held the IBF junior welterweight title and the WBA welterweight title during his celebrated career from 2001 to 2017. After 16 years, the Brooklyn native retired from boxing and became an analyst and commentator.
He served as McGregor’s training partner during the champ-champ’s phenomenal boxing match against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. However, this sparring relationship ended after photos showing how the Dubliner got the better of Malignaggi surfaced online.
Shortly after the former boxing champ left the Irish star’s training camp, the images emerged including a short video where ‘The Notorious’ appeared to drop the ‘Magic Man’ with a punch. This didn’t put a smile on Malignaggi’s face.
The 38-year-old believes that the ‘edited’ clips strip the session of all context by UFC President Dana White to put him in a bad light and eventually bolster McGregor’s image. He later challenged the Irish fighter to post the entire footage to show the world ‘what really happened.’
McGregor Vs Malignaggi
Apparently, the former two-division champion and the former world champion in boxing is planning to bury the hatchet with a boxing match. According to a Twitter post from BoxingKingdom14, a ‘credible source’ reported that negotiations are already ongoing.
“Credible Source: Negotiations on-going between McGregor & Malignaggi. (Boxing)”

User TalkMMA echoed the report, saying McGregor and Malignaggi are finally getting a ‘grudge match.’
“I’m hearing that @PaulMalignaggi vs @TheNotoriousMMA boxing match is in light discussions. This is most likely Conor and Paul’s Best chance for a long-awaited grudge match, and for both to make a little bit more extra cheddar. Like discussions for now. Nothing serious.”

Since the sparring video controversy, McGregor and Malignaggi have been at each other’s throats, may it be in public or online. The American commentator’s most recent attack was when the 30-year-old submitted to Khabib at the fourth-round of their light heavyweight title match.
“#noballs #quitter @TheNotoriousMMA”
“This man has more honour, character and balls than @NotoriousMMA his team and any of these @ufc suits combined. Do the right thing and pay the man and leave Zubaira out of this! Your organization becomes more of a joke by the day! Do the right thing!”
