Cody Garbrandt Issues Statement On TJ Dillashaw’s EPO Use

TJ Dillashaw has been slapped with a maximum suspension by the United States Anti Doping Agency following his UFC Brooklyn failed drug test, and it did not take long before Cody Garbrandt responded to his former teammate’s fallout.

Before forming one of the ugliest rivalries in MMA, Dillashaw and Garbrant were once teammates at Team Alpha Male.

In October 2015, the former two-time bantamweight champ left California to join Team Elevation in Colorado.

This was where the beef between TJ and Cody started as the latter rallied behind Urijah Faber following Dillashaw’s exit.

The two were booked to fight for the first time at UFC 217. In a pre-fight presser, Garbrandt accused his rival of encouraging their Alpha Male teammates to take performance-enhancing drugs.

Fast forward to 2019, Dillashaw tested positive to a banned substance, stemming from his flyweight title fight in January. As an aftermath of the incident, he is suspended from fighting for two years retroactive to January 18, 2019.

Now, Garbrandt has some harsh words for his former teammate.

USADA Suspends Dillashaw

On Tuesday, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, USADA, confirmed that Dillashaw tested positive for recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO), a substance that immensely boosts one’s endurance by stimulating the red blood cell production.

As a result, the anti-doping body slapped him with a two-year suspension, the maximum sanction given to fighters for using banned substances that are not specified under the promotion’s anti-doping program.

Garbrandt quickly chimed in on Dillashaw’s fallout.

He called his rival a ‘coward’ after suggesting that USADA should tell all his samples.

“No Love” then claimed that his three career losses came from fighters who violated the anti-doping rules, which drew flak from MMA fans on social media.

The 27-year old fighter is coming off a knockout loss to Pedro Munhoz at UFC 235 for his third straight defeat in the UFC.

He was riding a six-fight winning streak since his debut before he was dethroned by Dillashaw at UFC 217.

They met again for their rematch at UFC 227, but Garbrandt failed to reclaim the title as he absorbed another knockout loss.

Dillashaw may have won their previous fights but it looks like Garbrandt is having the last laugh now.
