Cody Garbrandt Says Head Butt Led To Knockout Loss At UFC 235

Getting his third upset in a row, Cody Garbrandt lost to ninth-ranked bantamweight Pedro Munhoz via a first-round knockout at the star-studded UFC 235. Despite this,  the former 135-pound champion vows to be back in the game.

In a wild exchange between the bantamweight rivals late in the opening round, the ‘Young Punisher’ emerged victorious over ‘No Love’ to score his third simultaneous win in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Early in the first round, Munhoz landed an overhand right that dropped the Ohio native down to a leg lock. Garbrandt was able to escape and got his foot out of harm’s way.

The American stunner came back with his speed punching while the Brazilian fighter poured it on an overhand right and a calf kick. Munhoz then clipped Garbrandt to send his opponent crashing down the floor.

After the momentous match, fans were quick to put down the 27-year-old former champ for allegedly ‘letting his ego get the best of him’ at his latest loss.

Garbrandt never lost professional a fight until 2017 when he suffered a pair of defeats over current bantamweight titlist TJ Dillashaw. To the fans disappointment, he followed it up to a third setback under the UFC’s most stacked fight card of the year so far.

Despite this, Garbrandt humbly thanked all his fans and congratulated his rival for a job well done. Taking it to Twitter, ex-champ said:

“Love you guys. Congrats to @PedroMunhozmma”

‘No Love’ couldn’t help but respond to criticisms over his UFC 235 game plan. When former Bellator fighter Gilbert Jamal Smith asked where he is going from this point, the 27-year-old wrote a burning response.

“Bad game plan to just swing and bang after getting knocked twice! That’s 3 KO loses in a row. Where does @Cody_Nolove go from this point? I mean, one more KO and he maybe done done!” Smith wrote.

“Farther than you ever have,” Garbrandt answered.

“Big Fan Cody but it didn’t seem right, why start swinging after what happened with DJ?” wrote another fan.

To where Cody replied: “I got head-butted and after the head butt, I was on autopilot, congrats to Pedro he stuck tough. I love this fight game. I’ll be back thank you to all my supporters means a lot!”
